Okay, so I've always been kind of resistant to the effects of drugs, for whatever reason, but I have been taking a lot of depression meds I don't feel like sharing, and this is my fifth type, and medication is freaking expensive, and yet I feel the exact same as if I wouldn't have taken them at all. I keep being told that they will make me feel better, but I'm constantly thinking about wheather or not said meds would kill me. In other words, it's not helping, treating on hurting.

They are working as intended. Psych drugs are not meant to make anyone feel better. They are meant to turn people into "zombies" and many other negative effects. To feel actually better, you will have to find what is being detrimental to your well being and what is missing on your life, then decrease the negative inputs and improve on what is missing. It may take many years though, but is the one true way. It may not be obvious for you now, but you will eventually come to this same conclusion.

Try asking your doctor/psychiatrist about possible add-ons to whatever drugs you're already taking. I take abilify as an add-on to help with my depression it probably has saved my life. If that doesn't work ask about ketamine treatment. Idk where you live but if it's available I hear that it works pretty well for people.

SSRIs in general are pretty sketchy drugs IMO. There's tons of shitty side effects and it's kind of like a guessing game about which ones will work for you. It's totally understandable if you would just rather not take them at all. Don't stop taking them cold-turkey though, there can be pretty nasty withdrawal symptoms including negative long-term side effects. I hate advocating for the pharmaceutical industry but always talk to your doctor before stopping SSRIs so they can properly wean you off them.

Also iji is right the only way to truly feel better is to improve your life through your own effort. If you have clinical depression it's something you're going to have to live with forever, but it doesn't mean you'll always be miserable all the time. Meds can help but they aren't they can't solve everything. What's important is trying your best to sure the good days outnumber the bad and feeling like your life is worth living.

I wish you luck and I hope you're able to one day make a recovery <3.
