Help The right way to hang?

So I find myself in predicament of seeing information online saying you can botch a hanging and somehow hang for minutes or in one article 1 hour, which is horrifying in my opinion.

Is this true, Or some sort of anti-suicide information? Can you really mess up a full-suspension hanging?
