Suicide in the 80s-90s

So, to help me cope with things, I like to write characters who commit and/or attempt to commit suicide. I have this character that grows up in the 80s-90s and attempts suicide. What were some common methods at the time? What did online forums in the late z90s contribute to this?

I can't say for sure but I'd have to assume the methods weren't all too different from today. I don't know if you could find any statistics for method usage in those days but I would think that death by firearms, hanging, and drugs would likely be the highest.

Helium was probably pretty common since it wasn't really well regulated, unlike today.
My guess is heroin was probably also really popular.

N was very common during this time still. It was still very accesible. Also they also used traditional methods such as drowning and using carbon (like putting your head in the stove) and also the car one.

@Unwr!tten My uncle died in the 90s. He filled his car with the exhaust fumes. Drove out to a forest first before he took his life. His wife left and his business went broke and I figure he just had enough. Best of luck.
