Alright... well I have bad tinnitus that keeps me from falling asleep now. I'm thinking it's stressed tinnitus, and I hope it'll go away with time, but in the meanwhile how do the people here with tinnitus actually help it/cope with it?

Mine's a very high-pitched hissing that's coming from inside my head. It's started happening right after I joined the forums, and ut's been a few days now of having a lot of trouble sleeping. I need silence in my life and I hope I won't lose it.

So yeah, what are some good resources to help me live with it? Are there exercices I can do? Is there anything I can do to help it?

Help meee~Ă—

Reduce stress.

I get tinnitus when I'm physically or mentally sick. When I'm tired, ill, anxious, etc. Luckily it tends to go away quickly, but it's basically an alarm bell for me to take care of my body.

diaphragmatic breathing, EFT tapping. if you don't have a nighttime routine, make one so your body can relax a bit before bed.

I'm not necessarily sure if this could help, but it might be worth a try. Background noise might help distract your mind from it? Like listening to white or brown noise could maybe help.

hello, i've had really bad tinnitus for ten years. can i ask, what level of audio does it take to mask the tinnitus? like can you play a fan in the room and it covers it up? if so i always leave a little white noise
machine running in my bedroom that helps
me get on with my life.

95% of tinnitus cases resolve by themselves in three months. if you've started any new medication recently then i would recommend stopping it unless it's medically necessary.

i Also recommend taking melatonin at night, falling asleep is very difficult for me and it makes it easier to get over that hump.

there are a lot of snake oil supplements online that will not help you at all. sometimes very very rarely vitamin deficiencies of magnesium and zinc can cause tinnitus. Very rarely will supplementing this help your hearing, but i recommend trying because why not.

lastly, i recommend staying as busy as possible. tinnitus thrives when you stay at home focusing on it so keep on living your life. eventually you may hit a point where the sound no longer causes an emotional reaction, which is known as habituation. this takes a few years for some people.

i'm sorry i know what your going through is so horrible, i hope my words weren't to blunt or matter of fact. have hope though - cochlear, cilcare, the university of boston and massachusetts are different organizations doing research on tinnitus and could see promising research as soon as next year.

EDIT : i just realized this thread was from a month ago sorry if you already have this information already : P

No, that was really really helpful actually! It hasn't gotten any better yet but getting told it'll probably go away in like 2 months is quite soothing. Thanks for the tips, I will definitely keep them in mind. You've given me hope :)

The intensity varies a lot. Sometimes I can forget about it and sometimes it makes me want to burst my eardrums (even though I know it wouldn't do anything).

I did have some medication dosage changes like a week before the tinnitus started, but I reverted them about a week afterwards and it didn't change anything.

I'm really hoping once the semester's over I get to live a normal life again. I've noticed it gets much worse when I'm feeling anxious, but that might also just be a side-effect of getting in my head too much. It's often accompanied by a feeling of pressure, like my head's gonna explode. It's all pointing towards this all being a symptom of anxiety/depression.

Thank you again! Much luv

P.S. I only check SaSu intermittently now so I might not see your next response soon!

Sometimes tinnitus can be caused by neck/jaw tension. Does it get worse if you tense your jaw? I have tinnitus that comes and goes, and I'm 90% sure it's a TMJ thing.
