You are right but we don't need to suffer a lot too. We have ways to decrease the pain felt on suicide, a lot of info of methods are available on the forum.

Even if you don't care about pain, your brain has built-in instincts to avoid pain, which is why we have SI. This is why painful methods can be hard to go through with. Some substances (such as alcohol or benzos) can dull inhibitions/anxiety, and therefore SI, but they can also mess with your coordination, making some methods harder.

So, even if you don't care about pain, your brain still does, and so you shouldn't aim for a painful method. 5 minutes is actually a very long time when you're in extreme pain.
