Hi, first off here's a link to a thread regarding your questions: https://sanctioned-suicide.net/threads/sn-megathread.1156/

Now I'm fairly new myself, but I'll take a crack at it. SN = sodium nitrite, NaNO2. It's a salt used for a variety of uses in chemistry and industry.

It's fairly toxic when ingested orally (10-30 mg per kg of body weight), so for me @ 130 lbs., that's only 1-2 grams TOTAL! Now this is purely theory. In practice, you take a much larger dose, around 25 grams. You can find more info regarding dosage in that megathread.

I'm pretty sure it's almost painless, but you should do more reading on this; I don't feel knowledgeable enough to say much. I do know a common issue is nausea, leading to potential vomiting of still-absorbing SN. Most SN methods include strong anti-emetics (anti-vomiting medication), specifically dopamine blockers, typically requiring prescription.

I personally ordered my own bottle of PN (potassium equivalent) days after joining the site; SN seems to be the most popular method by far.

See you around.

Expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed. But as far as I know, you won't feel like you're suffocating or some sharp pain from your stomach. Maybe some lightheadedness and vomiting (which everyone on earth has done, it doesn't hurt that much). So nothing to worry about if you follow the protocol 😁

Is this equivalent just potassium nitrite? If its the same or similar enough process to SN, I might have to look into, since maybe it'd be easier to find and less on customs' and/or more popular shopping websites' radars

It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to determine an accurate success rate, especially from data acquired here on SaSu, since everything posted here is anonymous, and there's just no way to verify those that "apparently" end their life with SN. If it wasn't a "reasonably" effective method of ctb, though, I doubt governments would be trying to curtail its availability to the general consumer, as they are doing currently.

I attempted suicide on SN until someone saw me pale and blue. If you do take a teaspoon or 2 of this with some water you'll definitely notice you can't support your own weight. It's a weird feeling but it effectively poisons your blood. So make sure if you do do this do it in private.

I'd say the success rate depends on if you take antiemetics (AE) beforehand or not. Without AE the success rate is not that good.. I've read a lot of goodbye posts where people took SN impulsively and without AE and their attempts failed.

If one takes AE, it increases the success rate by a lot

If you don't mind asking me.. what symptoms did you get after taking the SN?
For me, not much except a certainty that I was going CTB I took AE too so I didn't feel much sickness, just difficulty to move around paleness fading in and out, it was overall a peaceful experience until someone discovered me

I feel like the pain involved with SN is subjective. I've never made an attempt with SN, so I have no direct knowledge. I do have experience with Hypoxia - which is how SN kills you, and I consider suffering Hypoxia to be a distressing sensation. I've read story after story about SN, even watched a video of someone doing it, and from what I've gleaned, it's not so much painful as it is deeply uncomfortable or distressing. But it is reliable when it comes to lethality, which is the most import factor when considering a CTB method.

And yes it's painless
Not even uncomfortable at all? You're lucky! The thing that stops me from considering SN is I'm too brain damaged to trust myself to do the process right.

PPH exit has observed over 20 attempts and listed it as very successful, ofc those people would have all been following the preparation regime perfectly

Not sure what you think I said in my post, but this is what I said:

"If it wasn't a "reasonably" effective method of ctb, though, I doubt governments would be trying to curtail its availability to the general consumer, as they are doing currently.

Still, it's all still anecdotal information. So, you have supposedly 20 cases out of how many thousands? 20 very "controlled" cases performed with the utmost adherence to a strict protocol regimine? Oh, ok. šŸ™„Doubtful that any events leading up to the cessation of breathing and/or heart stoppage are ever going to be painless, no matter the method, especially if still consciously aware.

But there isn't any official statistics out there for this sort of thing? Just a shot in the dark

It's equivalent in the sense that it provides nitrite like SN; you do however need a larger dose, because potassium has more mass than sodium (PN is ~23% heavier, so you need ~23% more PN than SN to get the same dose of NO2, e.g. 30g instead of 25g).

Now these are just my suppositions about the difference:
  • The larger dose may lead to a greater chance of vomiting. I'm not sure since there technically is the same amount of salt, but potassium is tolerated differently.
  • Potassium can cause symptoms of its own when ingesting a large amount due to "hyperkalemia". These may or may not interfere with the nitrite's mechanism of action; I'm not a doctor unfortunately :(
Since I have a bit of chemistry knowledge I was going to try to process it into SN. If you're curious, my current idea is to use tartaric acid (probably sodium bitartrate) since potassium bitartrate is barely soluble in water. I have to do more research into this though, I think it requires control of the pH to get it right.
