The PPH recommended people sit relatively upright during the SN process. Most people on here choose to lie down. What's the reasoning for the former? 1) Stomach emptying quicker? 2) Trying to limiting vomiting? 3) Not falling asleep on Benzo's and aspiration resulting in suffocation?

Could be so that if you throw up you don't choke on your own vomit? Just a guess.

Its normal to lie down because your body starts feeling heavy and u can't get up any more

Possibly. Like a lot of things in the PPH there's no explanation or logical reason. Same with the vast amount of Benzo's.

I agree. Why do they advocate sitting upright-ish then?

I had thought about what the ideal position would be too, I figured upright to minimise projectile vomiting or to at least delay it to maximise the SN that stays in your system?

Quite possibly. That and 'maybe' accelerating the stomach emptying process overall. Bizarrely though as pointed out above everyone seems to completely ignore that recommendation.*

*edit - all that said I'd much rather lie down myself.

I don't remember where I read this (might be pph?) but after taking the SN, immediately lie down on your right side.

I'm going to lie down on my bed, to one side and as I know I will probably throw up, will have a container to the side of my bed.

In the 2025 version it just says "lay back".

Yes, I've read this too. I believe the reasoning is that the opening from the stomach into the intestines is on the right hand side. So, on the right and slightly upright on pillows is my plan. Try and aim it in the right direction as quickly as possible.

I was just considering laying in the bathtub of the hotel room I booked while I go through the SN method. This will help clean any possible defecation, and vomit too, while being right beside the toilet. It just seems more convenient to me.

According to PPH, after ingestion and the onset of the first symptoms (approx. 5 min. from ingestion), lie on the right side. There are two reasons: the first is to prevent a fall because the loss of consciousness comes suddenly, and the second is to speed up SN resorption.

I read that lying on the right speeds up absorption as some of the other users have said, while lying on the left prevents you from vomiting. It's a matter of preference

I also think that sitting in a reclining position can be a balance between comfort and preventing vomiting

That seems to fly in the face of the Recovery Position which has people on their RIGHT side to prevent swallowing vomit doesn't it?

The standard Recovery Position often places people on their left side, not the right, to keep the airway clear and reduce the risk of choking on vomit. The key goal is to allow fluids like vomit to drain out of the mouth rather than being swallowed or obstructing the airway. Lying on the left also helps reduce acid reflux, but there may be variations used based on circumstances.

Sit how you want and whatever feels right. Odds are very very low it matters.
