I'm pretty sure the capitalist class tries to keep the sorrowful proletariat alive for their personal misanthropic pleasure by selling them the concept of happiness.
I am not denying that happiness exists, I am observing that it doesn't counteract the deeply nihilistic nature of life. Being happy literally does not matter. It's just an emotion, like sadness, anger, lust. It's all completely insignificant in the vast complexity of life. The truth is it is life's essence to be miserable, and our human duty to end it.
Now the bourgeoisie has successfully fooled the working class into slaving their life away by blinding them with the silly idea that if they are happy, then life is good, which is completely nonsensical.
They are doing this, obviously for the most part to harvest our work force and keep living their also miserable, but prosperous existence, but they also do it by pure misanthropy, they hate us. That's why they demonise SaSu, suicidals, and anti-natalists (the true philanthropists), and that's why they also sell everything that makes us happy, fast food, luxury cars, water parks, video games. They sell us our own chains. But our happiness doesn't erase our sorrow.
But most people can't unlearn all of the propaganda they've been fed, because happiness feels so good. It's nothing but a toxic cycle of government-sponsored addiction.
And I feel so alone on this.
