I'm traveling to Turkey for a holiday in a few weeks.

How easily do pharmacies in Turkey sell prescription drugs (without prescription) to tourists? Or is this totally impossible without a prescription, and would I have to see a doctor in Turkey first?
Is there any chance the Turkish doctor would contact my own doctor at home?

I would like to obtain Diazepam/Valium and nortriptyline (TCA).

Do you think they would sell it to me if I said that I forgot my medication at home and I really need it?

Also, what are the Turkish brand names for these drugs?

Thanks! 🙏

Hey there. I did some Googling on Turkey's drug laws and how pharmacies function over there and found some information. It appears that some medications are only able to be acquired by prescription, as is the case in most countries, and some of those prescription-only medications are controlled substances. It looks like all medications are assigned a colour grade, and depending on that colour one may be easily able to acquire them or may find it much more difficult to do so.

I found no information on nortriptyline in Turkey.

Diazepam appears to be a "Green" prescription. This means not only is a prescription required to obtain it, but if a prescription is issued it will be specifically "recorded and tracked," whatever that means.

Your best bet is to contact Turkish authorities and ask them directly about what to do regarding bringing or obtaining the medications you inquired about. You could contact the Turkish embassy or consulate in your country and inquire that way, too. They could at least point you in the right direction.

Safe travels!
