I've seen a lot of mention of practicing hanging and wondered if this is something I should be doing as part of my.. research.
I think as hanging will be my method (using pull-up bar in hotel room) as no other options seem to be accessible, I'm worried that practicing should 'fail' and leave me without a solution. Having a solution in mind helps my anxiety and idk how I'd cope with discovering it's not gonna be doable.
Even though I know for sure this is ultimately what I want, I'm trying not to overthink the whole thing as I feel like excessive planning will only freak me out but I also don't want it to get to the actual day to find out this method isn't going to work for me.
Idk.. is it worth trying beforehand? Any tips..

There are different things you might want to practice.

You can practice passing out. It's not strictly necessary, but it can help you gain trust and confidence in hanging as a method. It should be done by not fixing the rope to an anchor point, but holding the other end in your hand, so that the setup releases if you pass out and you don't accidentally kill yourself. Also, make sure to use a noose that releases easily, like a Running Bowline. The Noose Knot is not the safest choice, but can be OK. Do not use a Poacher's Knot, because that can get stuck in a tight position.

You can also practice tying the knots and test whether your anchor point is strong enough. I would highly recommend doing this. For hanging to work, it's critical that your anchor point and your knots work as expected and don't fail. If the anchor point, the knots, and the rope are strong enough and they hold, hanging is a pretty certain way to die. However, the setup must be able to hold your weight securely. It's a good idea to practice tying the setup and testing it under load. To test it under load, you can put your wrist in the noose and pull your legs up. You can also leave enough rope so that it reaches the ground, and you can step into it with your foot, applying your full body weight.

If you want to keep it simple, you could skip testing passing out. On the other hand, I wouldn't recommend skipping testing the setup and practicing tying the knots, just because you're afraid it might fail. That would be exactly the point of testing. If it fails, you want to find that out beforehand and correct the problem before your attempt. You wouldn't want your setup to fail during your attempt.

Thank you. This is helpful ❤️

The "good news" is that a hanging practice failure usually means you are dead.
If it means you fell to the floor, it was a success in that you found a problem before it was a problem.
Half of practice is working out the bugs. The other half is getting comfortable with the process and feel.
