Stop for a moment to think what non-existence implies, it is a bit difficult. The truth is that for the vast majority of people, the idea of non-existence or absolute emptiness is a difficult idea to absorb, we are talking about the total absence of life.

Non-existence can be compared to non-presence, but both are totally different ideas, you can be absent and exist in this plane, I was doing a little meditation exercise recently, and, I realized something that I think is "The sound of life "a small vibration that dances in my head and that I can only perceive while in a state of relaxation. I have always had that sound in my head but I hardly ever stop to appreciate it, I wonder if you have perceived it in any way.

Then I was laying on the floor, just and just wondering things and brainstorming about this. Somehow I began to think of death as an indescribable comfort, I will never suffer again, I will not have responsibilities or have to think about anything. I'll just rest.

I think of that all the time and you summed up my feelings about it too. I cannot wait for the day I can finally rest and not exist and finally be in forever peace with no depression, no anxiety, no responsibilities, it will be wonderful and hopefully soon.

I don't think we are capable of understanding or reaching any state close to what is to be non-existent, unless we die. Anything that we experience will be bound to a subject who experiences.
But still, your experience seems to be a very interesting one and, if it brings you comfort, I can just give you my incentive.

Yap!

here are my 2 cents: :)

How was they year 1887 for you guys? (Yes 1887!)

Stupid question isn't it ? none of us was even born! But that is exactly my point!
We can check history books and find out that the world was everything but ok back then (not saying it's ok now) but from our point of view things were OK, good, balanced, time didn't have any meaning, suffering non-existent.... perfect peace!

That's were we came from and that's were all of us are eventually going...

Certainly dying is returning to the same state we were in before we were born.

Thank you for sharing this.

The only thing I can compare this to is coming out of anesthesia after getting my wisdom teeth out. I remember getting home from the surgeon's office, and writing about it, because it was just so striking. For that period of time I essentially ceased to exist; I had no dreams I couldn't remember what happened and when I woke up? I had maybe 30 seconds-- 30 seconds of zero stress, zero thoughts, zero cares or anxieties. I existed and was conscious but without all the things that make sentient consciousness a fucking nightmare. It was bliss without euphoria. I'm not quite sure how else to describe it.

Anyhow, your thoughts on non existence definitely remind me of David Benatar quotes and some of Emil Cioran too. If you don't know their writings, I'm pretty sure you'd appreciate them.

Isn't it just like sleeping?
No. That's what I would have thought too, but it was way different.
Sleep for me usually has some form of inconsistency to it. Whether a dream however long or short; or I have to get up to pee; or other more subtle, slight forms of consciousness.
This experience under anaesthesia, as I've had others, was just.... Total and complete blackout. I didn't remember the moment I drifted off. I just suddenly woke up, very slowly. Drowsily. At peace. And then suddenly the noise of my own brains thoughts and the rest of the world came crashing in.

I suppose for some people who sleep "like the dead" and you don't remember anything or feel anything when they sleep, and wake up with that 30 second or more window of no conscious concerns without being unconscious, then sure. It's possible some people experience this when they wake up.

I'd be both jealous of those people and glad I'm not them. If I had that feeling every day when I woke, I'm sure it would be much harder for me to ever want to wake up.

I'm not sure though..... Because I have gone through periods of my life where I've slept really well and solid, and this still didn't compare at all.

It's a little too late for complete nonexistence, but I'll take the next best thing, which is an early death.

I'm one of those people who black out completely when they sleep. It's my favorite part of the day, and yes it's so hard to wake up all the time...

It's not even peace. (If it was maybe I'd have died by now.) It's just, nothing. Not particularly nice or horrible. Just nothing, at all, just like before you were born.

Non existence is what I want. To me it sounds so peaceful, just to experience nothing forever. To me existence is a burden, and this life holds unlimited potential for suffering. Death is freedom to me.
