Never saw this paper mentioned here. It is about someone who used Nitrogen and there was a Rubik's cube next to him.
Simplistically, Dopamine is the brain's signal of anticipation of reward and once you get the reward the Dopamine goes away replaced by Seratonin. I started thinking that much of SI comes from the anticipation as sort of an anti-Dopamine so I like the idea of distracting your consciousness with something else after putting on the bag.
According to the standard instructions as long as you exhale completely beforehand and take a big breathe after pulling the bag down then you mostly breathe normally so you could focus all your attention on the cube.
His bag doesn't seem clear though so he might have just done it before or had it there. Because it seems like he also put his hands under the blanket.
With a clear bag, this could probably be any type of fidget toy that keeps your hands and mind busy until you lose consciousness instead of focusing on what is about to happen. Maybe even like a stress balls or those Metal Chinese Balls under a blanket.
