It's New Year's Eve ringing in 2026 and I'm here for it. What does it look like for me?

Like most people, I have my decor and my food. Typically I choose between Chinese food and pizza. Today I have a noisemaker, a necklace, a starry headband, and of course, the tacky 2026 glasses. If you know anything about me, there will 100% be bold makeup and a photoshoot in my future. I worked at the homeless shelter so I brought in some decor for the residents. Big hit.

Normally, I go for a classy champagne, especially when I'm with my mom. This year, however, I'm being a little more adventurous with some orange-flavored Grey Goose vodka and some cranberry juice. My cats will get some Fancy Feast. I will be watching the ball drop and waving at the people on screen as if they can actually see me (super dorky behavior, I know.)

I'm just a teeeeeensy bit ritualistic about this holiday. I want my whole physical body to exude new energy, so I have some new pants and I shower and I use some fancy leave-in conditioner and hair spray. As we speak, I am playing a playlist that includes Unstoppable by Sia and Safe and Sound by Capital Cities. And the undying classic I'm Still Standing by Elton John.

As you can see, I invest a lot in this holiday, but there are two traditions that I particularly cherish and these are writing a card to myself and donating money.

Basically, every year, I write a card to myself on NYE about where I've been, who I am and where I'm going. The idea is to hide it and not read it again until next NYE. It's like a time capsule. I've been doing this for years and while I've said all sorts of weird shit, the overarching theme is that I made it, and I'm enough. It's a pick-me-up.

Donating money on NYE is great because A LOT of organizations do campaigns where if you get your donation in before 11:59pm on NYE, your donation will be matched by wealthy donors. Two times, three times, it depends. One organization I gave to matched my donation 5 times. This year, I gave to a few different organizations who all did different things. One to preserve ocean ecosystems. One to fight human trafficking. I tried to focus on groups I had never heard of before.

If I had my way, I would be in Times Square right now. Or perhaps in Hong Kong, watching their drone show. For now, I'm watching my cats.

Lastly, I bought a card specifically to remember SaSu members who have died. It's a loss that they are not here to celebrate with us, but sometimes, I think that death itself is a new year that never ends.

What about you? Do you have any plans? Any resolutions?

I have a bunch of different goals I want to pursue, like start my YouTube channel or make more art or learn a second language. But I have only two rock hard resolutions.

To stay alive and to speak life.

Welcome to 2026!
