Neuralink had a livestream on youtube today. About the team at Neuralink and the progress of innovation they've achieved building a Brain Machine Interface (BMI).

My opinion is this technology will be the modern-day-foundation going forward and eventually a move away from chemical drugs. This is speculation and not anything that they really highlighted in the livestream. They're hoping for FDA approval in 2020. They did focus on future goals of fixing mental illness, brain diseases, defects such as tinnitus, and maybe someday hacking into the area of the brain to build visual scenery for the blind of the outside world. They're a long way away from these goals but this technology the N1 chip is going to be what's needed to eventually get on the path to these goals.

Anyway this livestream can be re-watched by going here:

The video starts at 1:44:33

I highly recommend watching and even if you have little to no understanding of the brain.

I see no good coming from this, if this was even remotely serious as a project then either the DoD or military would be funding or developing most of the tech.

You're missing that Elon Musk is leading the project and who would never allow that. This project is built on all the neuroscience research from decades and is similar in approach to other brain measuring methods but the technological advancements make the impossible until now possible. I'm assuming you haven't watched what they presented because they showed their surgical advancement where now they can read spikes since the physics restriction is gone and this is the best method for reading the brain and depending on how many of their sensors (threads) are placed in the region. A lot of good will come from this tech for people with no control of their hands and feet.
