Music!!!
I love all genres! - I have an appreciation for music in all of its forms!!! I do have a tendency to gravitate towards alternative genres like early 2000s alt rock, metal, grunge, screamo, etc.
I enjoy many of the artists you listed as well (the others I am not familiar with, but hey, maybe I'll check some out soon). I've recently been listening to: Bedouine, Sigh, Ghost, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, FOB, Aaliyah, D'Angelo (RIP), IC3PEAK, Ichiko Aoba, & Bam Bam - oh and the early 20th century composer Lili Boulanger. I've also been going to a few live shows of local bands near where I live - mostly forms of metal or screamo.
Food!!!
- Cinnamon Rolls are a solid pickkk
- I 've enjoyed baking in the past - I very much cater my recipes to my taste so I'm kinda partial to those things lolll
- Apple pie, sweet rolls, or something even more simple like some kind of loaf cake (banana or pumpkin bread) can really hit the spot sometimes haha
Instruments!!!
I've always wanted to play piano, but I just never really got the opportunity to learn! I love hearing people play (& adore earlier "versions" of the instrument such as the harpsichord). I'm sorry you lost your dad so young - that sounds very difficult. From what I've read from your posts you guys seem to have loved each other immensely. My uncle plays the drums! Makes sense why you couldn't get into them much though :-(
I started playing clarinet when I was like 9 or 10? I still play occasionally, but I agree, lessons and competition take the fun out of it for me. I enjoy playing with others in theory, but in practice once you hit a certain point it's just too much pressure. I started learning the bass guitar fairly recently, but I'm very new to it and considering my life, I'm not sure how much I'll be able to learn before the end. I 've enjoyed it though!
Visual art
I've never been much of a drawer (though I very much love seeing products of it), I enjoy crocheting, knitting, and making and/or designing clothes! I study art history, so my appreciations for art are generally diverse haha
I enjoy a lot of textile history! But as noted, many mediums like sculpture, painting, and architecture also interest me. Lately, I've been researching Chancay Gauzes (partly for class partly for fun - honestly the class I'm taking is just an excuse to hyperfixate) - they're basically a kind of lace-like cloth that were used as headcoverings in the Pre-Hispanic Chancay civilization (basically located in the middle of the Inca Empire on the coast on what is now like central-ish Peru). They have designs woven into them that would have been obscured when worn. When examined, it is apparent that certain aspects of these woven figures are sometimes spun in a different direction than the rest (basically, something like the head or outline of a body would be woven with yarn in a different direction ex: these outlines may be spun to the left while everything else is spun to the right). This had no visual or structural effect. A scholar Rebecca Stone explained in her book
To Weave for the Sun that textile production across many cultures located in the ancient Andes valued the desired effect of a piece over efficiency. This includes things like visuals or construction, and I think Chancay Gauzes are an interesting example of this from this particular culture. Stone also explained that the surviving textiles works from the Andes region "form the longest continuous textile record in world history." - many many examples
Now that the short info dump is over (literally struggling not to info dump more lol…), I loveeee Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs!! Truly, all of the works you listed are amazing!!! An artist's soul!!!
I'm also a HUGE horror enthusiast, but if I start talking about that I will literally never shut up haha
Sports
For me, soccer was always more fun to watch than play - every team I was on was filled with assholes lmaooo
Tennis was exhausting (played for school, we had matches almost every day and when we didn't we had practice lol). We all HATED our coach (genuinely terrible human), but the team aspect was a lot of fun! While we weren't out on a field together at the same time. We were still very much a close-knit group! Since we all had our own matches going, once we were finished we would sit back and cheer whoever was still playing on.
I greatly appreciate you as well :-)) I'm glad I've gotten to learn what I know about you. You're a lovely human to learn about!!!
