People shouldn't be "thrown in jail" for comments they wrote online, unless it's really extreme like incitement to murder.

In general I agree most internet users are frustrated and cope with their own misery by trolling other people that's true.

However, strict internet free speech laws would mostly make this forum impossible and could mean a lot of trouble for all SaSu users and staff. I mean I am glad there are countries where hosting such content is legal otherwise I would be even more lonely and miserable.

if we threw everyone who said something bad online in jail, those same ID systems would probably result in all of us being tracked and thrown in wards~ While many people online are really awful and especially terrible in their use of language to others (which tbf, is unfortunately a lot like irl as many of us have experienced), that's an absolutely awful idea~ >_<

Restricting speech doesn't make people nicer or society better... it just helps hide the worst people. I encourage everyone to be open and honest, because the best people will shine and the worst people will be known to us all.

I'm sorry but you're not entitled to not be perceived, especially if you willingly post yourself online. In doing this you'd have to admit that you've never done or thought anything "incorrect" before and I strongly encourage you to get off your high horse, and this is coming from me, who cried whenever anyone said something bad about me in school. You need to get over it sometimes and let them be bc I most definitely think unsavory things about others whether they deserve it or not, it's life.

There is a difference between actual harassment (sending threats and stalking some random) and filming people without their consent to be bullied on a large scale when they didn't know about it. But my god, why are people allergic to being a little contrarian sometimes. Plus a ton of people purposefully post cringe stuff to get hate comments and engagement so it's a benefit for them anyway.

Yall ain't never thought that a celebrities outfit looked a little ugly lmao

Yeah I agree, and OP should definitely be the one to decide who "most of" the people are, which I assume will include the majority commenting on this thread. Unsavory characters.

You make an important point here that I think gets glossed over all too often.

There are victims of assault (whether it be physical or verbal or emotional) and there are people who behave as if they are victims because someone looked at them when they didn't want to be looked at... and it gets old + it diminishes actual victim experiences.

Mind you, I'm not saying there aren't all kinds of ways to be harassed legitimately... I'm just saying, there are people getting harassed and impacting their lives on a daily basis... and then there are siblings in the back seat of a car and one of them screaming how "he's looking at me" while the other says "I'm not touching you... I'm not touching you..." while holding his hand within a hair-length.

The "he's looking at me" is a nonsense thing to be complaining about... the "I'm not touching you" is actually worse harassment because not touching, he knows he is causing a trauma response by pushing the line as far as he can to get under someone's skin in a way he knows is working. But even acknowledging that, it's still a world of difference from the person being groped without consent by someone who is good at hiding his machinations when others are looking.

And as in all things... usually the loudest person in the room gets the attention, and all too often the most harmed victims of harassment are the quietest because they blame themselves or fear they will not be believed or their abuser is liked... meanwhile the person screaming the loudest is not necessarily the one being harmed so much as they have a high opinion of themselves.

Randomly... as a kid I had a relative that was near my age and my family visited hers semi-often. She had a bad habit of digging into my arms or hands or legs with her fingernails, sometimes breaking the skin even and always leaving marks on me... but I couldn't do anything since I was raised and believed it was wrong to fight back against a girl. Meanwhile if I was even the slightest bit non-agreeable to something she said, she would scream loudly as if I had beat her... and I always lost the benefit of the doubt in those situations. I was actually the one being harassed and abused, but I was a boy and so I was assumed to always be in the wrong.

And as you say... a lot of people make posts for attention, but then if they don't get the attention they want/expect, they claim people are hurting them by not agreeing with them, as if you have a right to be agreed with in all things.
