Anyone else deal with this? The hatred of sound. Especially coughing, clearing of the throats, loud chewing, dishes clanking together. It makes me so angry and have to isolate . How do you deal?

No kidding! I would have thought the look I give him would have been a clue ... But nope. He is completely oblivious to how what he does affects others. We fight so much about " important shit" that I just grit my teeth and order another glass of wine ... 😬😬😬

My previous best friend has misophonia and something we did when I had to eat or we had to go into a situation with noises he didn't like, he wore ear defenders.

I would assume noise canceling headphones would give a similar result or even better if you put music on

Yep,it's honestly one of main reasons I like working nights so I don't have to hear my coworkers chewing around me all day.

I bought myself earmuffs last year and have been wearing them 24/7 at home, including when I sleep, and I often double up with my wireless earbuds. I made a profile post on why I bought them.

Personally, "human noises" and click-tick-tap sounds annoy me but they don't induce anxiety. I'm annoyed but fine nonetheless when I hear the to be expected noises from the environment I'm in, such as eating sounds in a cafeteria or sniffles in a busy waiting room. The reason I wear earmuffs at home is not knowing when and how long the next noise will disrupt my peace. I expect irritating noises from my neighbors and not knowing when they come is dreadful to me.

On another note, I'm pretty sure my mother has Misophonia. She hates little out-of-place sounds and shows a lot of telltale signs. Imagine you have Misophonia and your child has Tourette—that's my mother and I. I love my mom no matter what but I still remember the hurt I felt when she told me to be quiet or leave the room, the constant glaring I pretended not to notice, the stress of trying to suppress my tics in futility, and her anger. I suppose this seems rather mild but that's not how it felt. GTS is a part of me, and telling me to leave the room to not hear me is as painful to hear as telling someone with a deformation to leave the room to not see him. I understand GTS and Misophonia don't pair well so although I was hurt at the time, I don't feel angry or sad about it now.

Yeah, I've got this. Wish I was in a position to move out to the countryside, the boonies, where "neighbors" are at least hundreds of feet apart. Just too much, and the wrong kind of, noise in a city.

Oh god. So lots of sounds are a problem for my ptsd, but as to just annoyance, I'd forgotten how much I hate slurping sounds. Those just make me want to die.

Snoring is my #1 trigger. No matter which type—soft, gentle, low-frequency sounds or loud, raucous diesel engine noises—they grate on my nerves and make me want to choke the life out of someone. It's the reason why my mum and I no longer sleep in the same place ever since two years ago. After many nights of being kept awake by her snoring I just couldn't take it anymore. Last year I went on a trip to Japan and had to share the room with all family members on some days. It drove me nuts.

(P.S. I know it's not someone's fault if they snore. Misophonia is a curse and I hope they can find a cure for it someday.)

I avoid the break room at all costs because every time I sit down to have some damn quiet, some asshole has to sit next to me and chew with his mouth wide open. And there's usually someone snoring really loudly on top of that. And the endless crinkling of chip bags. But mostly it's the open mouth chewing that kills me. You're not a fucking farm animal.

I can't stand the sound of "wet" chewing especially if they chew with their mouth open. I've heard this often happens with noises associated with traumas. In my case it kinda makes sense.

It's a real thing. There are certain sounds that when I hear them make me instantly angry. That drive me crazy within seconds.

Dog barking. The way our cat drinks water. The sound of paper rubbing together.

Absolutely maddening.

There's a constant humming at the house. Dystopian. Has become the soundtrack of my life. Drones on and on.

Frogs at night. Dogs barking during the day incessantly.

YES. People at work think I'm stupid and silly for this. I've told my wife and as usual she hates me for it. I ask God and evolution why I can't close my ears. I recently realized it's not just me. If I had the means, I would start a home appliance business making things that are quiet instead of noisy as hell.

This made my day. I visualize launching a spear through my wife's cat when it grooms itself. I would never do that of course, ever, it's just what flashes into my mind before I put on headphones to drown out the slurp, slurp, slurp, ARRGG!

I unfortunately live with a man who can somehow slurp solid food 😑

He has sneezing fits that drive me insane. And he's always moaning and groaning every single time he moves. Even just his breathing is so loud and annoying.

But I have times when I can't even be around people speaking.

I'm pretty sensitive to sound. My mum always get mad because little sounds make me jump out my skin and scream. She says I'm over reacting. I also hear a constant high pitch humming.

Yes and I think it extends to outdoor noises such as hearing loud bass from cars.

Two years ago I was having meltdowns for half the fucking year because I felt like I was being water-boarded having to hear this loud ass nigga-bass from the street.

And yes I've always hated the sound of people chewing, smacking, or snoring.

I also hate the sound of children "singing".

Yess! I hate my misophonia. I deal with it with noise-cancelling headphones and always trying to keep myself doing something. If I hear a triggering noise when my guard is down then I often hit myself on my leg to get it out of my head. I think because of my autism, it makes it stick around longer even after the noise is gone.
