Anyone ever got hold of their mental health/psychiatric hospital records.

If so did you find it helpful or insightful?

Not my mental health records. Got my medical records and it had some psychiatric stuff like early appointments with a counsellor that I don't remember and stuff the doctors wrote. I'm a high suicide risk lol.
After reading my medical records I don't want to know what they've put in my mental health records. It had a bad impact on me. Wasn't prepared for it.

One of my reasons for suicide is mental health records actually.

@Jc40 were the medical records that bad?

I don't think I want to know what they've written about me, I think I would find it really depressing.

I just wasn't prepared for reading it. Like you said really depressing. Mental health records would be worse.

Sorry to hear that. I'm curious to why? Understand though if don't want to go into it.

Criminal records get spent, I don't understand why they don't remove medical records after a little while.

They made my dream career impossible. Also I felt like they did not reflect me accurately. Like I hit for sister for calling the hospital on me and falsely accusing me of hurting her (dumb as fuck, I know). I feel as though I was dominated and branded against my will by the doctors.

Doesn't say anything you or you're parents are not aware of, not much use as far as insight is concerned. Really, by definition, it's just documentation of known behavior/thoughts deemed problematic.

What was your dream career, if you don't mind me asking? So sorry that's happened to you. It's happened to me too and I have worries about the implications for my career, I think it could affect me being able to teach, so can really empathise with how that feels. Hope it helps a little to know it definitely isn't just you.

Just found and read my psych record because of this post. 0/10, it's like picking the scab off of an old wound.

I wanted to be a diplomat. I'm sorry it happened to you too. Both my parents taught at a private school and I could ask if the school looked into their medical records.

Thanks. I think that they look into medical records when applying for post graduate teaching qualifications, maybe (if I don't ctb and) I have some years without episodes, it wouldn't matter but I don't know. It should be illegal for professions to discriminate.

Even though I been to many therapists and counselors throughout my life, I don't believe I've ever read most of my therapists and counselors' reports about me. I'd predict that some of them are a bit exaggerated just to make it sound worse than it is. Also, while I never been hospitalized against my will, I could only imagine how much worse it will be for many others out there.

I've been hospitalised against my will three times. I imagine my notes are dreadful because staff have to write notes and risk assessments each day and aren't really held accountable for what they write. I'm sure they make half of it up, as they didn't even see me some days.

They should clear mental health records every 5 years or something. What were you psych warded for? It happened to me because of self harm and stuff.

That must have sucked, did the hospital help at all?

Yeah it really did - I think the main thing that helped was time, and it would have been a lot better if I'd been able to stay at home. If they'd given me the amount of medication at home that they put me on to help me "recover" I'd have quickly been too tired to be unsafe at home. The trauma that comes with hospitalisations is the most damaging thing I've ever experienced. They need to give people more time before going to extremes.

I was so traumatized by my hospitalization too, especially since I sustained severe hair loss due to it. Forced hospitalization is bad enough but the hairloss part totally eviscerated me.

They really do need to give people more time. Were you turned in by your family?

Just got hold of mine and read them.
Traumatizing is the best way to describe them...
I feel like jumping off a bridge now when I read what I've been labelled as.
