Okay. Read the rest of the thread. Now I see.

I've never heard of this bridge before. I wonder why people don't jump off it more often.
There are people that jump off it often. It is a well known suicide bridge. Most suicides are not reported to try to keep more people from coming to make the final jump. Despite best efforts, many of the suicides have made the news. People also base jump of it on Bridge Day once a year. You also have a lot of people that base jump illegally and the accidents that come with base jumping.

Hmm. Surprised they haven't built suicide barriers.

Anyway, I wish I lived near that bridge.

What's so bad about hitting a road or railroad tracks? It's better than hitting water or even bushes.
Nothing because you die anyway. Rather you hit the road, tracks, trees, rocks or river, you are dead.

It has been talked about, but they have tourism reasons for not doing it. They also could not barricade the miles of cliffsides in the New River Canyon, people jump from those as well and the falls can be 900 plus feet.
One guy actually came all the way from California to take the final jump off the bridge. Most of the suicides are people from out of state.

I worry the trees will stop it all or cause me to live. How can I avoid them ?

I have been watching your posts for the past few days and live in the area of the bridge you are considering jumping from. I won't mention the name of the bridge but it is very well known as one of the top suicide locations in the country. That being said, if you decide to jump, you will not have long to do it if you try to during the day. Everyone that lives in the area knows about it and the likelihood of intervention is very high. The people here are not the kind that just watch things happen and will attempt to stop you. You have already been in the area long enough that you know what kind of people are here.

Most suicides occur at night. If you run out on that bridge, you better be committed because if someone stops you, you will end up in a psych ward. The people here are very protective of the area and most suicides on the bridge and in the canyon are not reported. The suicide numbers are extremely high and people from all over come to the bridge and park to die. Nobody has ever survived a jump from that bridge. The terrain under it is very steep and rocky. One guy ended up off the bridge in 1998 and his body was not found until 2016. That is how rough the terrain is. It is equivalent to jumping off a 90 story building. If you do it, there is no survival and no risk of being gimped.

There have been days when there have been two suicides in one days. The bridge used to be a well kept secret but in the last five years, so many have killed themselves there that it can no longer be hidden. Some of the canyon Cliff's in the same psrk have 900 ft drops as well.

It is a bridge with a height equivalent to 90 stories and very rough and rocky terrain under it.

Why wont you mention its name? Please, I want to die and 35 meter bridge is just not enough

Pick a spot where the trees are thinnest or jump in center over river. The trees will kill you themselves slamming into them at that speed. Nobody who willfully jumped with the intent of killing themselves has survived that bridge.

The name is all over this thread now. It is the New River Gorge Bridge.

I have put that address in my gps more times than I can count - but I never worked up the courage. I'm about 4 hours away. It's beautiful I bet especially so this time of year.

My mother jumped and was successful. It's a big reason I feel like I can see my own ctb through to the end.

I might be late to this thread, but yes 876 feet is more than sufficient (barring some extreme outlier and even then those extreme outliers had protection or really, really unusual circumstances that by the sliver of chance they survived). Scientifically speaking, yes that height is more than sufficient to CTB successfully and as @blackflag1 said, usually bridges that are known suicide spots, there are usually people who go to prevent others from jumping or CTB'ing. Therefore, if you are going to go you need to make sure you maximize your chances of success, such as picking a time where there is least chance of people intervening (night time) and also a spot where it is easy to jump from. Also, you must not hesitate and if you do, then you might not be able to succeed and/or risk getting saved against your will.

Not sure why I would want to be involved. Done no research on jumping and there is probably a megathread and other stories that can be used as reference. Looking through the thread I feel confused from some of the responses against the OP's question. How it became a stalkerish event to find their spot via google did them no favours. So ask the OP if this helped as they would be the best critic on the quality of help this gave them. For reference, my criticism comes from people ignoring the original question and responding to one in their own head. Also coming up with wrong information which in the context of this site is extremely dangerous.
Reading through his post history, flag seems to be an expert on nearly every method...hanging, jumping, SN, standing in front of a train, blah, blah, blah. This is what happens to people who breathe too much of their own exhaust. Can you say narcissist?

I don't recall advocating standing in front of a train. I am glad you have found an activity to occupy your final weekend. Is there not a better use of your time? I feel for you and wish nothing but the best for you.

I'm an excellent multi-tasker from my deathbed, no worries. I'm genuinely fascinated by your perceived level of expertise on nearly every subject. Tell me 1 thing you don't know...I'll be waiting.

I never claimed expertise. I only offer what I know from experience. I happen to live in the area of the bridge in question, I know it's history and have personally seen some of it's victims. You have labeled me a narcissist. Always keep in mind when you point your fingers at a person in in accusation or false assumption, you have three of your own fingers pointing back at you.

What do I have to prove or disprove? I am human and imperfect, there is plenty that I do not know. If I knew it all, I would be a billionaire by now living the good life. I am certainly far from those lofty heights though.

Bridge day is coming up on this Saturday Oct 19th. It is the one day that the New River Gorge Bridge is open to nothing but pedestrian traffic.

[Putting up suicide barriers] has been talked about, but they have tourism reasons for not doing it.

Sorry peeps - this sentence really amuses me. It sounds like they're planning a thriving suicide-tourism community, complete with Last Supper Diners, professional video options, Send-Off Banquets, Go-In-Style Escorts, casinos, chapels, moody backdrops, cowled strangers and more - very forward-looking!

@Cook, I'm sorry you're contemplating such things. Please be gentle with yourself. x

I got a good chuckle out of that. That was a reason cited in an article about the bridge and suicides that was in a local paper a while back. I think it has more to do with Bridge Day and unobstructed views from up on the bridge. Tourism is indeed a big part of the local economy and that park draws people from all over the nation for hiking, rock climbing and white water rafting.
I'm by the bridge now, this is my chance

What do you think of the view?
