I've been doing DBT for three sessions so far. I've not noticed any improvements to my depression or suicidal thoughts. The supervisor for my therapist suggested more therapy as a solution to my active thoughts.

I just had my first session with the secondary therapist. He spent most of the session talking and it makes me feel so tired. He ended the session by telling me my life sounds awful. This is after asking me why bother with therapy after two plus decades of continuous therapy. Good question. Am I wasting my time Sasu? My CTB date is coming up anyway. Why am I even bothering.

im not trying to discourage you from getting therapy if you want it, but i've personally never benefited from it, and none of the people i've talked to who are also seriously disordered have either. if anything, it's made me worse, because it made me realize there really is no "help" out there, whenever you express the things that actually bother you you're threatened with hospitalization. it can sometimes be good if you struggle with black and white thinking and can't describe your emotions or why you feel that way. but the psychiatric industry fucking sucks and is mostly just trying to leech as much as they can off mentally ill people while virtue signaling

That's the curious thing. I spent an hour with this man and I left feeling worse than when I went in. It seems to be a pattern for me. It makes me feel like therapy can't help my broken brain. Where are we supposed to go for support when the people I'm paying for support don't seem to give a fuck how their words impact me.

Hi , therapy doesn't always really help but sometimes it is more about listening to advices they might give you and still trying. It is draining yes , I understand but it is always better than nothing. Some people might have to go to therapy their whole life only to survive but those people are fighters.
And you are still here so far , therefore...you are fighter too , good luck on your way honey 🙂↕️

I can really recommend going to therapy. Even if you dont see results within short time, it means a lot to open up and just talk to someone who listens and does not judge.

Therapy helped me a lot to make progress with my depression and anxiety issues.

Of course, the therapist can't change one's life.
He is there to talk about problems, maybe get a different view on them, and to develop new perspectives.

But it may take some time to get "results".
It's very common to feel worse at the beginning of a therapy, because the brain is now actively thinking about all the problems.

3 sessions of dbt is not enough, buddy. i would say you will need 6 month-1 year before you notice any major changes. but dont quit therapy, please! give it a chance. you can always ctb later

After two plus decades of therapy I can see why you'd question whether to continue. I've actively tried to get better through therapy for about 11 years. After a certain point you can't keep fooling yourself. For some people it really seems to help. It just makes me feel worse honestly. I can still try to get better, haven't figured out exactly how yet. But it won't be through therapy. Good luck, no matter what you choose to do in the end.

6 months to a year for relief feels like an eternity. I've been going to this clinic since June and I'm on my third therapist. I struggle with feeling hopeless beyond repair.

There is different types of therapy and different type of therapists. It can be effective if you find the right one for you. Some are amazing people who want to see you succeed and others should not be in the profession. I hope you can find someone that shows you care for your well being, listens to you, and works to help you through your struggles. They are out there it just might take some searching and trial and error. I would say keep sticking with it, but transition to someone you feel a connection with to at least one you could think could help.

everything you've said really resonates with me. for a lot of my life i spoke to counsellors and social workers, i'd taken medication, and it never really helped.

maybe you're not compatible with your therapist(s). I had to look for a few before I found one that felt helpful.

Therapy is one of those things that can take some time to see noticeable change. Trauma can wire your brain in a way predisposes you to symptoms. DBT is like trying to rewire that in a way that's more functional and healthy. But we're talking about trying to rewire YEARS of trauma in the span of months. It's something that takes consistent commitment and effort. DBT has high drop out rates for a reason. People need to at least be willing to cooperate or they don't get better.

I refused to get help for a long time because it didn't seem like it would help. It can if you're willing.

Something I like about my skills group is that you get 4 misses, then you're kicked out. and it can take several months to get back in. At first I thought that was kind of callous, but if you aren't committed then it wasn't gonna help anyways.

naturally, it's challenging for people with BPD. if it was easy then we wouldn't have the problems that we do. you're stronger than you think.

Everyone is different. I've been in therapy at several points in my life and it really helped me. But your mileage may vary.

Depends on the person. I would certainly go if I could still afford it. I would recommend you try it, and if it doesn't work, you don't have to keep doing it but I fail to see the harm in trying.

yeah, i know 😭😭😭 but please give it a chance. it might help! im doing dbt too, since december. trying to give it a chance too

Some theraPISTS are a waste of time but therapy is general isn't. Like any service anywhere there are good and bad therapists. Ultimately, they should act as a mirror to your own self, showing you your flaws but also how beautiful you can be. Sometimes you just need to find the right one.

it depends on the therapy and therapist. I've found group therapy and processing groups helpful because it's nice to hear other people who feel the same i do. actual cbt and dbt work with real life examples and how i can apply it helps. i did talk therapy for years and it never did anything to me. i'm going to be doing emdr maybe soon if they think i can (my depression is pretty bad and has been for over 6 months now, i've always been depressed but this episode or a severe low has lasted a long time). unfortunately, the CBT triangle is real, and behavioral activation does affect your thoughts and feelings. but it requires like daily change, and when you're depressed or dealing with things it's not easy.

also, fuck ACT therapy i hate it because i don't want to accept suffering and injustice and the circumstances of my life and every therapist I've talked to has tried to convince me otherwise.
