Is it really necessary to prove the purity of the SN even if the label says 98%?

Is it very common that the purity of the SN is not the one mentioned on the label?

What would be the consequences (damage to my body) of surviving a ctb attempt if I take SN with a low purity percentage?

That depends. If the SN was bought from a brand with good reputation or a brand that makes chemicals for industry, I would say you dont need to test it.

It's not strictly necessary, but you have to accept some risk of a failed attempt if you don't.

I haven't heard of anyone receiving low-purity SN, but I haven't been tracking this for long either. You should search the forums about this if you decide to skip the test.

It would be like any other failure where someone didn't take enough SN for whatever reason. You can read the forum posts from failed attempts, but people have just woke back up feeling sick and recovered. I don't believe it causes permanent damage.

I would recommend purity testing for piece of mind. You need test strips, but they're easy to get online. You also need a precise scale that can weigh 0.1g units, my kitchen scale was too big so I ordered another one online for cheap. You also need some sort of measuring syringe or similar device to measure 5 ml of liquids, I got that from the pharmacy. Yes it's a bit of a hassle, but all the stuff is easy to obtain.

I won't be testing mine. Firstly, I don't know how to test for purity, and secondly, my SN came from a well known source which people have successfully ctb'ed on, so I have no doubts on its purity. If I did doubt it's purity though, I will make an effort to find out how to test it...just for peace of mind.

I'm not going to test mine since it's from a reputable source and also test strips are of dubious reliability and I don't want to mess with it until it's time to CTB

However, if you aren't going to use it right away AND are not going to test it, definitely make sure that it is in a vacuum sealed container to prevent it from degrading into nitrate significantly prior to use. Although it's best practice to do that regardless

to be fair, blood test isn't fully reliable as niTRATE can mimic the same visual effects etc on the blood.

having a source with a good reputation is a great thing to consider as others have said. aquarium test results DO vary but I don't think that's a reason to fully count them out. as long as it's close to the correct color and not pale etc. this anecdote is taken from multiple goodbye threads here containing test pictures.

please don't test it by taking some random "small" amount. I hope that goes unsaid but it still happens. much love. đź’—

If the source you purchased from is legitimate (an official chemical distribution/production company) and the label says 98%, there is no need for testing.

I disagree here. If it's DMC, sure, or somewhere others have verified, here. But other sources, I just got mine from a reputable seller and it says 99%, but all tests have failed on it.

Other thing you can try is put a bit of the SN in a bowl outside or in a testing tube and using a dropper put a little Hâ‚‚SOâ‚„ (sulfric acid) on it. If it bubble and there is a brown kind of gas then there are at least some nitrites there. If nothing then its for sure a dud. Look up the reaction on youtube to see what it should look like.
