Venting I'm stupid paranoid of being doxxed for no reason.

I make art, but I also have a fanfiction account that recently was connected to my art account. Basically, people can now reasonably be able to tell that it's me on both accounts.

I'm relatively normal with my art stuff but my fanfic is weirder. It's not the craziest shit ever, like it's cuddling at best and eroguro at worst, but I only recently learned one of the characters I wrote a lot of nsfw shit for is 17 - not over 18 like I thought. Within the fandom, people don't seem to care about that from what I've seen, but if this is connected to my art stuff it'd definitely go outside the fandom.

Long story short I'm so, SO paranoid about getting doxxed because of this. People will consider me a pro-shipper, and while I don't really care about ships and shit, many people have been swatted for that, and worse.

I don't know how to remove the connection between accounts because it was basically a post by someone else making the connection that's already been shared. They weren't being malicious but I'm scared that other people will be in the future.

Somebody please tell me if I'm just freaking the fuck out over nothing or not.

I think it will be fine. It's easy to look to high-profile cases of someone getting harassed over something like that, but for every person persecuted there are probably tens if not hundreds of thousands or more who do the same thing with less security and aren't ever targeted.

I'm sorry you feel so worried about this. I can relate in a surprising number of ways to your thread. I even just wrote a post on here very recently about how paranoid I was that someone would connect my online accounts and my real identity, but in my mind I know there's no particular reason why someone would put in so much time and effort just to mess with me besides a one in a million crazy person.

I was panicking about it for a while when I wrote the post but I managed to work up the courage to keep posting my fanfics. Life's shitty enough without my paranoia holding me back lol.

There are streamers with millions of subscribers who have never been doxed, swatted or faced any harm in their private lives.

Having less than 10 000 followers is basically being unknown these days.

You are safe. Just remember to defend your boundaries. Block people who harm you, choose your groups.

Twitter really isn't good for anyone's well-being. If you use it for art, just post your piece there, don't start reading replies and other people's posts.

I used to use twitter, but I haven't really touched my account in years. I've been considering deleting it. I use bsky a bit but mostly tumblr now. The twitter crowd really is the scariest of them to me lol.

It really is toxic there which is why I told you not to go on there. Also tumblr is pretty dead now but that doesn't matter unless you're trying to build a large following

Honestly I've gotten much more traction on tumblr than I ever do on bluesky, but it might be because of where the fandoms I'm in usually congregate. I feel like every social media is dead in some way nowadays lol

It makes me happy to hear you're still pursuing your interests! Some might think it's trivial but art and the act of sharing it is very emotionally powerful and consequential to humans. It's valid to be panicked about something like your reputation too, especially if it feels threatening to your ability to do what you love.

Personally, expressing my creativity in a public way is one of the only things I've ever done that gives me a feeling of true purpose in life. A reason to live. It's been a powerful tool against my depression and suicidal ideation. It takes a lot of bravery to expose yourself and be vulnerable like that, and it's freeing.
