Right now my plan too kill myself was too jump off the golden gate bridge, but now they erected a suicide net. And I don't know of any other ways to easily kill myself. I have so much anxiety over housing because my roommates didn't want to renew the lease and my next place is just 6 months again. If they do the same thing, then I'm going to be homeless most likely. My new roommate right after I signed the lease is now asking me for 2 references randomly and my driver id, which is giving me anxiety. I move in this Saturday, but I'm nervous to switch situations again. Money is going to be tight till next month assuming everything goes to plan. My new landlady also said the check I gave her had a hold, and my bank verified there was no hold on it. That also made me a little nervous. But conditions for renters are only going to keep getting worse, homelessness keeps exploding every year, inflation is out of control, poor wages/poor working conditions, and no one cars. I joined a tenants union and we're trying to start a chapter in my area, but I don't see it going anywhere because my area is mainly single family homes and small apartments. And in the large buildings that have the most potential for organizing, its all occupied by wealthy people who don't care about poor people

Sorry you're being threatened with homelessness that's awful. Suicide prevention nets are evil

Seems like you're in the SF area - which is exorbitantly expensive - any possibility you could explore other places? Why would a roommate (not landlord) have the right to ask you for references ? maybe have bank teller print out your account balance or print hard copy yourself email the confirmation from your logon to your bank account (redact the full account # but include your name) showing the funds are indeed on hand right now and available.

I'm just shocked that my roommate wanted them after I signed the lease and 2 days before move in. I'm now having to scramble to try and get another reference. I used one of my old landlords as one, and one of my roommates said no over her being too busy. In terms of leaving the bay I need more job experience, more savings, social connections outside of the bay, and also enough money to buy a condo. I'm a long ways off from being able to leave the bay, at least 5-10 years away.

What net? Unless they're concrete I'd try metal cutters?

I feel for you deeply.

I finally had a decent home & nuked it with chemical cleaners. I'm sick like mad. Seem to be embeded in everything and now materials offgas. My skin is peeling off... Maybe being homeless in fresh air travelling the country would be fun.

I wish I had advice...

If you are healthy... Wait and see... Maybe it will work out... But administrative crap is torture.

But they wanted you!

I see hope. Sheer anguish in a limited option world... But you're doing good jumping through the hoops. I admire you.

I hate how they put suicide nets over high bridges. If people want to exit they should be able to and others shouldn't have any say in it. I hate how we live in a world that makes it as hard for us to die as possible. I'm sorry that you are in this situation, it sounds really stressful, this life is just too unfair. I also wish that I left this world earlier. I hope that in whatever happens, you find relief from your suffering.

I was really close a few years ago. I lived in a tall building with a terrance. Often I would go there at night to stare dow. Once I managed to climb the border and I waited there a few minutes. Clearly I could not push myself to step forward a few cm. If I did I would be gone now and happy.

I think you're not familiar with this net system- it is cost over $200 million- metal cutters won't work- it would be like trying to cut your car in half with metal cutters. As of March of 2022 they said the nets would be up by the end of 2023, so I don't think all the nets would be up by now, but there are many patrols there, volunteers looking for people walking alone, looking distracted- they are down to just 1 or 2 jumpers per month out of many who want to.

Update I moved into my new place and I'm feeling better. But I'm still super scared if my roommate doesn't want to renew in 6 months

Maybe they really worry about the famous landmark becoming a haunted place affecting tourism.

1 or 2 could be us... I wish they put that money & energy in trying to actually help people.

I guess jumpers makes it hard for people who clean streets & pick up corpses... They should make suicide boots grinded straight into dog food.
