Trying to Recover / Leaving

I also think about this a lot, as if it were some kind of paranoia, but it would be very unfair for a person who is suffering in life to be condemned to suffer for all eternity after death. People are always saying that God represents love and affection, so if he represents all this goodness, he wouldn't have the courage to condemn people in constant suffering to Hell. And besides, for those who condemn the act of CTB, as many religions say, the answer is simple: none of us asked to be here, we were inserted into society against our will, therefore, we have the right to leave as we please. This is just my opinion.

To me, Christian concepts are as far away as Mongol legends. Realistically, you either have consciousness after death or you don't. But even the question of the possibility of nothingness is so weird...

Personally I don't believe in that rather I believe death to simply be non-existence which is all I hope for, I only wish to never suffer again. Instead what I fear is suffering way more for so much longer in this existence, to me existence truly is so cruel and torturous, I'd never wish for existence and it terrifies me how there is no limit as to how much agony one can feel as long as they exist, I'm so tired of suffering in this existence, and I find it so painful to exist, more than anything I wish I never suffered at all.

I grew up christian and they told us god will forgive us as long as we repent, so I'm hoping that if christianity is real that god will let people repent for a while in purgatory after dying and then go to heaven. Thats just me being hopeful though.

The way I see it is, if an afterlife like heaven or hell exists, you're going to have to confront it eventually. Whether it's now or whenever you die and whether you ctb or die naturally/accidentally.

The word hell comes from a Viking and Saxon word. The biblical "hell" in the original languages is sheol, hadés, gehenna and tartaros. Sheol and hadés really just mean the grave when you study how these terms are used. The word gehenna is from Hebrew "the valley of Hinnom" which was later called the valley of slaughter. In other words, a place where people DIED PHYSICALLY (not souls). The last term tartaros is mysterious but in context means a place where certain demons are locked up, not humans. The real biblical afterlife for the damned is actually just a second death in a resurrected body that will be executed after judgment. In other words, if you have rejected Christ, you will just die, be buried, rise again before judgment on the last day and then executed and die again never to rise or live again.

As someone raised Catholic, I somewhat share your fear.
But I don't believe anything (else) from the bible or relevant biblical texts. Scientifically speaking, there's just nothing. The same nonexistence as before you were born. And that gives me some sense of peace from the fear of the unknown.

I don't really believe in a "hell" but I don't know for sure & that does scare me. I think humans are a lot more "innocent" than we realize.
Just my 2 cents worth ...🌹💔

I think most of us have this worry but then when I really think about it, if that god exists, the one that sends already highly distressed people to hell who have ended their lives then he's not a a very merciful god is he.

I don't think anyone deserves eternal hell. Even the worst people imaginable. Infinite punishment for finite "crime" ? If that's the setup then I'm more moral than this god.

I believe hell exists, but I don't think suicide will put you there. I believe God will forgive those who take their lives. Hell is reserved for evil people, and we are not evil, we are unwell.

Damn.. that's a nice way of looking at it.
I guess, if a heaven and hell would exist, it's quite natural that they don't follow the exact rules made up by a population-controlling Church.
Didn't think reading something like this would comfort me so much. Thank you.

I don't believe in the 'church'... I think Christianity is a false religion, controlled by Satan. I do believe the Bible is a communication device from God, and reading it carefully, I believe God can guide me from my wrong erring ways, to the ways of truth.

IMHO: This is partly exactly the purpose for which the Abrahamic faiths were created, also as well as any belief in higher powers, the afterlife, etc. This is a vague, doubtful "what if it's all true" based on an almost instinctive conformist "the majority can't be wrong."

Fact, People almost always care not about what you experience, but about what you can give them, and accordingly, your feelings and experiences begin to worry them only when they need something from you. If they need you to be alive, they intimidate you with eternal torment so that you don't CTB, supposedly caring about your subjective well-being.

Religions were created when owning slaves and real human trafficking were still acceptable. For the owners, the loss of their own commodity unit was an acute issue of their own profit. Those slaves who were going to escape / rebel could be intimidated with even more hard labor or exemplary corporal punishment. But to prevent slaves from committing suicide, you have to be more inventive. And then you can take the existing feudal system of existing social classes and simply expand it, extrapolating it to some metaphysical scale and hold all the slaves with it, saying "You can escape from my slavery, but you can't escape God's slavery, and you will be suffering in hell for your disobedience."

In any case, for me these thoughts were useful regarding this, but I can also add that according to the research conducted on this site, suicide is never mentioned as a mortal sin in the holy scriptures themselves. Moreover, the Bible describes about 7 cases of CTB (mostly in military conditions, for example, to avoid shame or torture), including those who were canonized.

I read the Bible differently from most people. I'm not a Christian, nor am I a Rabbinic Jew. I have my own religion, it makes sense to me.

i dont remember what it was like before i was born, i think the only logical assumption about death is that i will return to that same state of non-existance. still, the concept of just not existing is so alien to me that i cant even imagine what thats like. but i am at least pretty sure hell does not exist i think the idea is silly

I'm atheist. Raised atheist by atheist parents. I don't believe in an afterlife heaven or hell.
Hell is right here on earth. Humanity is a genocidal species that tortures and murders our own species and nearly every other species on the planet. Humanity is just vile.
I think we go back to wherever we were before we were born. Nothingness.

Quoting myself from another thread about the same topic:
Ok, so I was wondering how is the exact religious view about it and to my surprise they are generally "gentle" (except one 💀) as in you won't be automatically going to hell if you commit suicide.

Catholic & Lutheran (Protestant?) Church: you can still be "saved" and go to Heaven, the chance is higher if you have depression or similar mental health... issues? Anyway, it will depend on the circumstances.

Judaism: your situation may not be very good but you can still be "saved". Depression and similar are also taken into account.

Islam: well... you probably gonna go to Hell and there you will be tortured forever by the method you used to kill yourself (makes me wonder how that would work in case of N, SN and other peaceful methods). But there is the chance that Allah/God forgive you and you can enter paradise.

I'm not saying "go commit suicide, you will go to Heaven", I'm just citing that could not be a instant condemnation.

I only put Abrahamic religions because these are the ones I have some knowledge and can interpret "correctly". Also because the afterlife in these is similar. Also because took a lot of time to properly get the answers 💀. There are ofc other religions and you can have your own beliefs (or not belief in anything).

as someone who was born and grew up as a Catholic, i used to believe and fear the same things. it often prevented me from sharing any sort of ctb thoughts with my family as they would tell me that i would go to hell if i followed through with it. as i started to become independent from my parents and any sort of religious practices when i was 18-19, i've come to this conclusion as a now Atheist that even though there may be something in the afterlife, i personally don't believe there is a Hell where you or i will be tormented for all eternity for. i personally think (and honestly hope for myself) that it all just ends after i die, but if you are wishing for an afterlife, i don't think that afterlife is going to resemble hell. i feel like it would just be peace after death.

no disrespect to anyone's beliefs though, these are all just my thoughts and this way of thinking has brought me relief from the weight of the fear of "burning in hell for trying to escape what already feels like hell".

If we're talking about christianity, I'm not sure if the bible explicitly says that suicide is bad. People say that you're "taking away the life that god decided to give", but what about healing people? Aren't doctors impeding god to take a life? Do they go to hell for that?
I personally believe there is no hell or heaven. There was nothing before, there will be nothing after. All the in between is our brain being alive.
