@Shakespear's Brother, I sleep in a similar mask. It doesn't get dislodged except for minor gaps if the straps are a bit too loose. It'll be easy to seal it better when I don't mean to wake up.

No I don't believe so it works differently.

Anyone who's used this site for more than a week or two comes to realize that many--if not most--posters are not willing to spend the time reading a thread from the beginning.

For most of the threads here, personal stories and problems, it's no big deal you can jump in any time.

For the occasional informational thread--the mega-threads for each method--this can cause problems. The same question is asked over and over because the person didn't read the answer in an earlier post. Stan realized this with the ridiculously bloated original SN mega-thread, so he wrote a condensed version.

The following is from a technical paper written years ago on an earlier version of the Debreather. (I'll also include a link to the entire paper for those really interested.) To understand how it works you need just a basic understanding of human respiration:

"Air is composed of about 79%nitrogen and 21%oxygen.During the human breathing cycle, air inflates the lungs and
oxygen is passed to the heart and then circulated throughout the body. A waste byproduct of cellular respiration is carbon dioxide, which the heart pumps to the lungs for exhalation. An exhaled breath is approximately 79%nitrogen, 17%oxygen, and 4%carbon dioxide.The need to eliminate carbon dioxide is what triggers the impulse to breath."

Combining Xali1970 and my summary, with the Debreather:

The user puts on the half-mask and breathes normally. He breathes in a closed loop. Your exhaled breath is scrubbed of CO2. Each breath you take contains less oxygen and more nitrogen, a disruption of the body's oxygen cycle. Eventually you lose consciousness and die from oxygen deprivation.

Here's a link to a very old paper describing the oxygen cycle, the principle of a scuba rebreather, the principle of the debreather, and the results from early field testing (actual observed--and somewhat assisted--suicides.)

1. Claims to have won the 2017 NU-Tech innovation award.
(The only thing I could find was that in 2017 Nu-tech had some conference and there was presentation on "revisiting the rebreather")
from the site:
"Its effectiveness has been demonstrated, and this particular version was the winner of the NuTech 2017 Innovation Award."
2. Free wordpress site poorly done. Clearly not a new award winning device. You can make a magic device but not a website? Come on.
3. the buy now link goes to a subdomain of a site with no content on the actual domain. (common for scammers)
4. The actual product on the buy form page is just a disposable cartridge.

All the flags of a scam and bullshit. Feel free to correct me if wrong. Don't be a sucker. We all want to find the way that would suit our needs. The concept of a device I like but doesn't seem to exist at this time.

Of course they explain why all the hoops but there are a lot of red flags. The PPHB still profits from people signing up as paying members to get info on this sketchy product. Even a convenient link in the first post. I trust the PPHB less and less the more I research.

1. Reliability rating of 6 by the PPHB.
2. Shipping cost from some unknown warehouse after to make the purchase. I understand you have to go through loop holes but all just seems too sketchy for me.

I agree, they should clearly state the cost.
The thing might actually work if the part the connected the 3 hoses wasn't so close to the face. Just rolling over on your side or the body thrashing a bit while unconscious would easily break the seal and allow in oxogen.

Mind you nought to stop u having someone with you and making sure it stays sealed . once your out of it the other person can disappear and leave you with it on . whose to know ?

I don't believe it will stay on. That plastic pipe that connects all the hoses will break the seal on the mask if pressured it applied to it in any way. bad design. Done venting. I'm usually very optimistic but this one just got under my skin. I hope you have some joy in your day Angie.

Some shady shit here. I went to the website and if you read carefully, you are only buying "title" to the device where it sits. Then you have to "arrange shipment" separately with Rocket Express - at extra cost.

Some simple googling shows Rocket Express is an outright scammy reshipment scam. Complaints of stolen credit cards, money never received, goods lost.

so, as with anything Nitschke, more to it than it seems and probably more $$$. I went to right2die as soon as I read this with intention of ordering one but now idk.
