To the point. How much does it cost to get a gun in the US and what hoops do I need to jump through? Checked a website but i anticipate some bs when I'm trying to get it. Also a price range

You need a state firearms license, so a lot of hoops. Not like it used to be.

I've often thought of getting a gun, but deterred by all the hoops. I would want to take shooting lessons and get good at it and learn all about guns, so as to improve the odds of success to 98%. If I was actually smart I would get one off the street. No background check no paperwork no fuss. With my luck I would try to get one from an undercover cop.

I never liked or wanted a gun. My father had several pistols and a rifle. When he died I sold them to a local gun shop as quickly as I could since I had no license and wanted no part in having them around.

Recently I wished I had kept one of them.

I'm scared too but typically things don't go my way and I don't want the way I go out to be ruined cause I have to rely on someone else. I don't know what else to do in terms of a surefire way. If I wasn't afraid, I'd jump
