I see so many people here suffering because they're alone, and I long for solitude. Every day I find it harder to tolerate human beings. Am I the only one who would wish for a massive global catastrophe that would wipe out most of humanity?

Honestly the only thing that would bother me is the lack of comforts. That was a great book and really a good movie. However I find king's the stand more realistic in some ways pertaining to how those left alive would behave. I think sure some people would just go psycho and violent. However I think in a world where most of the population is destroyed but the infrastructure isn't the majority would try and rebuild some king of society.

I like solitude, but only because (I think) most people suck. The people that I like -- I really like being around them.

No you're not the only one. It'd be ending a LOT of pain and oppression.
But thanks for using the word solitude. It's the name of one of my favourite songs.

It's a funny paradox how I'm an introvert who likes solitude, yet also suffers from loneliness.

I used to like that too. Maybe you will realise at some point that you'll need it to, maybe not.

Solitude is nice as long as you have the option, at some point nobody will want to hang around with you.

I don't need anything from this evil world except a way out of it

I don't need nor want any kind of relationship with another human.

I like solitude too. I spent almost a decade as a hermit with no neighbours for miles before my place burned down. It certainly has its advantages.

But I always knew I could see people if I wanted that would want to see me. There's comfort in that I think, even if not exercised for years at a time. I think what Carrot said is astute. The connections you develop pre-solitude fade over time. And solitude with the option for occasional connection, even if only once very few years, feels a lot different than solitude with no hope of connection ever again.

100% but I've never read that book before. I hated those Covid idiots who pretended that not being able to go out and party was the end of the world.

Yeah, it happens. Not that it can definitely change your life globally, but sometimes there really can be a fine line between the love of loneliness and the need to have someone around.

P.S. Though I still have nothing against the wipe of humanity and I'm leaning more and more towards this idea every day, unfortunately (?).

As a introvert, yes. But it's also nice to have someone to speak to from time to time (a genuine friend you connect with).
My social battery already runs low pretty quickly so if someone were to come to me a lot I'd get annoyed unintentionally.

But also yeah, a lot of people suck, stupid, or just disgusting so it reminds that I should value my alone time more whenever I see something come up
