ב''ה, now, without blaming Mexico specifically, how does every town have a cocaine bar? Though of course tweak is bathtub everywhere and so on.
Unfortunately (or fortunately from a religious G-d's truth perspective) I'm really particularly sour on Catholicism as really particularly has been allowed to run the immigration game along the southern US border. There's a lot of church solidarity although that includes the robbers *and* cops cycle of forgiveness in that rather than making good laws in the first place.
Now, I'm salty about weird religious stuff I wouldn't even be as salty about if G-d hadn't kicked my ass over it, but let me not go into that, as that just makes improving anything more difficult. (However, I guess I will say that after seeing someone simply beg to use an outdoor spigot and the entire plumbing in the place falling apart within weeks, solder failing and such, no rational causal explanation except really dumb luck.. some people bring that weird vibe.)
G-d, in the original Torah, to the Jewish people, says to welcome the stranger, y'know, give people a chance. As much as some of these ethics remain popular or are repeated.. being a first generation immigrant anywhere (though certain places are charging ridiculous amounts) probably brings on a load of help and joy for the exoticism. In the past helped quite many mostly legal immigrants, somehow we all kinda got along.
These days, there's a lot of weird vibes but there's also a housing shortage and often a lot of stupidity with REIT ownership and property management, and it ain't always who's buying the dope or hacking, but if you're a big happy hard working family in the construction trades, compared to an actual bedraggled American possibly single.. it's easier to get sympathy.
With rare exceptions like past NYC (never fully immune but with rapid turnover) and other actually very expensive cosmopolitan downtowns, various immigrant communities would tend to naturally form their enclaves but, the path to citizenship was less goofy then so illegality was less a thing, and new land and construction was available, a lot of folks were literally building their own homes as was a bit easier before gas lines and electricity.
So, punch upwards at the modern housing situation creating more struggle than there possibly should be.
Now, I *have* seen people of all kinds be shitty and I absolutely acknowledge that families have been spread across the border before there was a border, as always kept things weird in the southwest, but previously fewer people, more space, and less of the angst from all sides. Now there's been decades of influx chasing economic booms short or fictional, and with US leadership so sure the country and economy falls apart if real estate prices ever fail to double..
.. This is fueling a certain love for American Football with anyone who can play the property game. Gaining control of the building trades, as spaghetti flavored factions of The Church demonstrated to everyone else, was a great way to know how to play the real estate game, end up with a few properties as is the American Dream, and start only keeping around neighbors they like.
That said, everyone has gone batshit with this everyone needs at least 4 jobs and pills or dope to never sleep thing.
That said, if you look at the overlap in what used to be Spain in USA if we're kvetching about the parts of that culture that have gone a bit.. well, ahem, I've known other Catholics who spent their teens getting West Side Story in the streets so.. there's a lot of back and forth on what creates that particular Fight Club mentality.. it makes slightly more sense to sigh from places this is new than from places those families did build the whole city in the first place.
That said I'm going to be further charitable and say there is some weird shit stirring people up just to keep some of the dope game federally subsidized (saves half the airfare) and for more mundane agribusiness reasons - excuse for shittier pay, longer hours, whatever, it serves business if in California and Texas 'you can always hide out doing farmwork until it blows over.'
That's regular systemic stuff to address, and if citizenship were easy rather than ridiculous, everyone who's been here for 30+ years would just be standing trial like Diddy if doing anything equivalent, but the whole system is a clusterfuck and since COVID everyone's been too rude in a lot of places to make bilingual stuff the good ol' Spanglish it used to be when it was easier for citizens besides the company owners to be on the job sites (and then the owners have to be careful what citizens they hire to see the mess, and on it goes).
