I wish I could reassure you of what I think, the brain is where our consciousness comes from, and when it dies we will die with it too. There is just no real scientific evidence for the afterlife. It seems that was all go to nothing after we're dead.

Are you sure those cases can't be explained away by different chemicals in our brains and coincidences or even lies?

I like to think life on our planet has purpose, we are not cosmic accident. I also had tons of spiritual experiences in life, so I rely on those.

Lemme guess, attachment to a religion? I personally haven't experienced it, but it sounds really distressing. Best I can say is to try your best to... I guess... be more independent in your thinking? Don't have much else, sorry :P

You mean the Abrahamic version.....which has a few variations within it

This particular one, Jahannam, has seven levels....with mountains, rivers, valleys and oceans...

That's Muhammad on the right...visiting this place supposedly in a 'night journey' dream/vision.
Riding on a Buraq, which is a winged horse with a human head.....
Over 1 billion people believe this depiction is the only truth.

This is mine (copied from another thread to save time)

So when I was younger, I was involved in a car crash with severe whiplash that knocked me unconscious, and then spent the next few days in a coma. But my personal experience of that was seeing it from above. I saw my body, our car, the car that hit us, the various people coming and going, the traffic build up down the street, etc. I say "my" body because that's how the world sees it, but in that state it meant nothing more to me than anything else in the scene and there was certainly no emotional attachment to it.

Later, when "I" returned to the body, it was a massive disappointment. I went from this surreal space that felt far more like my true "home" than any place in this world back into this body that I had to see and interact with the world through again. It sucked. I wanted to go back. Not because I was suicidal beforehand - but because that place was just better.
In short I don't think it's those things you mentioned no. The experience is too universal and inexplicable. But didn't have the hell experience.

I must admit Dante's Inferno does have a feel of reality to me though. Like he went there and got out. That's a scary thought.

you didn't exist before you were born you differently won't exist when you die you get one chance at life as you exist right now soon your time will run out here soon you will disintegrate into the environment around you returning to a state of non existence who knows if this universe could ever bring you back alive in some form or not but it won't be the same you as before because you are just a machine made up of matter and the chance of matter rearranging matter in exactly same as before is extremely unlikely and even if it did it doesn't necessary mean it would be you just a copy of you

Why does hell need to be in an afterlife.....some have it is part of their daily reality.

children born with severe physical or mental defects....
like the girl that recently died that had Rett syndrome and severe facial deformities

then there are people with diseases that destroy any chance of a life....
etc
etc
etc

I admit the world can be a horrible cruel place...according to which vantage point you observe it.
Do these that are suffering now, can they be in hell as well for an afterlife. Its seems sadistic to think a system would do this.

That's definitely something, I'm not trying to invalidate your experience at all, btw. I just think that maybe it's the chemicals in our brains that can explain these experiences.

It's not impossible. The difficulty is with seeing parts of the accident site that couldn't be explained when you're unconscious on the ground amongst it. I was a very young kid when all this happened so rely in large part on parents and people I told at the time. My mother in particular is convinced it was an out of body experience, and subsequently read up on these things and constantly shows me them to this day, all these other people from different cultures and times with the same experience. So I think it's unlikely. But I also think it doesn't explain for certain what happens when we die - it's given me the expectation that that will be the first few seconds after but beyond that is a complete mystery to me like it is to I guess everyone else.
