I'm generation X. Old. I've dealt with severe treatment resistant suicidal ideation for too many years to count. Something happens I can't control and I think instantly that "I need to kill myself so I don't have to do that". People need things from me all the time. People manipulate me into doing things for them, solving their problems and using contracts and legal stuff to make me do their work.
I don't see that dying is a bad thing. Mostly because the rationalization that if I died I wouldn't feel pain anymore.
Sometimes I think that one purpose of religion is to take away the ultimate removal of power which is suicide. If your slaves kill themselves they exercised the one right you have no control over.
