God, I'm so emotionally unstable that a home invading pest made me cry today. I caught this lil guy in my home, and obviously he had to go. He's a rodent that'll leave droppings everywhere and chew through things, if it stayed more would come and they carry sickness and if I didn't kill it, then my cat definitely would. So I had to kill it and throw it away but I felt so bad when I had to do it, so I tucked him into a little box like it was a grave and cried when I threw him out.

I'm so pathetic that a fucking rodent made me cry. What is WRONG with me and why can't I just be normal? I just felt bad because the little dude was only doing what was in his nature, to escape the predators of the outside world and seek refuge in my walls, only to be met with my trap I set out to catch him so I could be pest free.

Dont be so hard on yourself, I used to cry over the small things at the beginning of my current depressive episode. But now I am emotionally numb and cannt cry unless I am pushed to the edge

I really don't think that makes you pathetic or anything like that, you're going through a lot of shit, feeling emotionally unstable or overly empathic comes with the territory

There's nothing wrong with suffering the unfortunes of others, even extending to animals. Your compassion is a virtue that exists only like how a flower exists inside a desert.

I'm not sure if this is the same thing that you're feeling...But I can get so disconnected from society that I develop a connection in other places. One day I had an ant on my desk. I had a conversion with him for about 30 minutes.

to be totally fair, i always had an issue with killing animals. people used to think a few centuries ago that animals where like machines and had no consconsciousness, i never understood how anyone could draw to that conclusion. imo what's abnormal is it to be able to kill animals without feeling any guilt whatsoever. It was the best logical choice to kill that mouse, but you are not weird for feeling bad, any animals (us included) don't know much better than what our biology does

I've been there...I'm still there.

Having emotions is a problem from what I can tell. Most humans keep theirs in check. Losers are unable to and are despised for it. Have no illusions: most humans are evil and will hate you for being weak. Young and old.

You're a good person bro. You even dig a grave for him. It is not weakness. It is humanity. Yes he is dangerous and maybe he could have bite you which could have been worse.

But you took your time to give him a proper rest. This is lovely.

You did it right. Prevent a sickness but at the same time, thought on his honor as a living creature.

The gods /god sure are pleasured by your kind last act.

Maybe if you feel so bad about it next time you could trap it, put it in a gunny bag like I did and let it loose somewhere far away.

But you didn't have much of A choice. A relative of mine died of leptospirosis. It spreads through rats urine. One way or the other, you can't leave them in your home to multiply.

I actually have lots of opinions on this. One invading pest is a big deal. I had one solitary mouse find it's way into my place a few years ago & I know how much damage even one of them can do. That alone could bring someone to tears. What a rude invasion of space.

However, there was no need to kill it. I didn't kill the one that I had to get rid of, I bought a humane trap & set it free near a babbling brook outside. Could it have been eaten by a predator as soon as I let it go? Sure, and maybe it was, but I didn't want to be the one to do it. I wanted to give it a chance of at least a few more days or weeks of living it's best little mouse life.

Anyway, I don't see what's wrong with shedding a few tears over the death of a sentient being, no matter how small or insignificant. Do people really think it's so wrong to have feelings these days? I'm not sure why anyone would view that as an indication of instability or abnormality.

We euthanize pets when it's time. Exterminating animals that bring disease is accepted.
But people are forced to live.
Unreal.

If you read the post again, you'll see that is not what they wrote. You said they dug it a grave & honored it by properly putting it to rest. If you read it again, you will see that they "tucked him into a little box like it was a grave"… and cried when they threw him out. So, they did not dig him a grave, they put him in a box and then they threw the box out (not that there's anything wrong with that, and I agree that OP is a good person & is judging themselves way too hard).
