I do believe that most people just care about what directly affects themselves in life, even if they pretend to care about others. Humans are certainly very self centred after all. But yes this world is certainly filled with endless cruelty and suffering. It's just disturbing to me how life evolved in a way in which all this continues to exist. Only death could ever comfort me yet the world we live in tries to make this as difficult for us to achieve as possible, it's certainly a pro suffering society that we live in and I view it as being such a terrible thing how we are denied a peaceful exit to free ourselves from this burden.

Absolutely true. I noticed this during the decades I was alive due to my skepticism on why people seem to talk a lot about the people they see but then ignore the ones that they don't (the starving citizens in third world countries, poor areas, and what not). They only conveniently use those people as talking points to bolster their ego and virtue signal.

Well said, and that is my findings as well when I interact with people in real life. If they do care, it's almost always about them, almost never about the suicidal nor the suicidal's interests or wishes. It's quite sad that that is the current way of things and non-sentience is being free from suffering and all the horrors that accompany sentience itself.
