Alright, I've been reading up almost every page on this thread and tested for myself. This must work for anybody as I'm 6"1 and have a muscular neck (rode motorcycles and had a rather active lifestyle)
My tips (for partial):
1. Anchor point, anchor point, anchor point.
I see too many people trying to hang themselves off stuff that will clearly not hold their weight. Test your anchorpoint before you risk braindamage. It should hold your entire bodyweight, and a bit more. Take into account you will be convulsing so that will tug on the anchor. The stories I read here are people waking up on the floor. I.e. the anchor held their static weight but gave way when they started convulsing.
2. Knots. Knots. Knots.
Knots are easy to tie. Use a simple slipknot, or better yet tie a loop in one end of the rope with a double hitch and pull the other end through to create a sliding noose. Don't use the hangmans knot, also don't tie a slipknot with more than 2 passes because friction.
3. Rope diameter and strength
Don't skimp on a rope. Static rope 10mm is GREAT. Yes, it's synthetic and braided so it will hurt a little bit. But it will 100% not break and it closes everything off evenly and effectively. I'd advise against going on shibari. bdsm, neckties, bathrobe belts or leather belts. Too weak, too much surface area. 10mm rope has a small surface area (around 2mm) and it is super effective. I am one of the lucky ones that has 100's of metres of this rope due to previous climbing hobbies. Sucks that I never really enjoyed any of it and now using it for a purpose that is opposite to safety.
4.. Location on the neck
For PSH, use the location UNDER the adams apple. I've tested all the locations. Above seems to hit the jugular effectively making you explode, you can't afford to swallow and it takes way longer for the sleepiness to kick in. On top of the apple hurts like a BSH. Under the apple and you get to breathe (labored) and swallow (not advised)
Keep your mind clear. Don't be eating or drinking (maybe just alcohol for the courage) before and take a few deep breaths before your attempt. Tighten it quick and lean into it. You'll pass out really fast. Although, if you've ever planked you know that seconds pass a lot slower in situations like this. Writing on a forum '10 seconds and you're out!' might seem fast, but when youŕe actually in the situation 10 seconds feel like a minute.
I tested every method I've come across here and this one is by far the most effective. Even with my neck muscles, it's so fast and it doesn't take hulk-type strength or massive amounts of pressure. Just a good fast tug. I haven't gone to the point of passing out, but around 3 seconds I heard a crazy growl and at 5 seconds I started to go limp. Because I was simply holding pressure with my own hand I let go. At that point I got the light euphoric feeling that people talk about. However, the experience itsself does not feel euphoric at all to me. You are indeed trying to die. Something you haven't done ever before, and likely don't really want to be doing either. You're trying to escape your life. If you can convince yourself you want to die, good on you. The rope burn around the neck is next to none. If you can't handle this pain you've probably never stubbed your toe on some furniture. Stubbing that toe hurts a LOT more than the amount of pain the rope causes.
I'm too much of a b*tch to go for FSH. I know that much. With this testing, that growl that I heard kinda got to me. I am taking it as a sign that I am simply not ready yet. However, when I am I'll be sure to drink up and pop some meds so that I can more easily black out. I'm sure that when the pain and anxiety become enough I'll be ready to CTB. Until then, I'll just keep trodding on in this pointless existence. CO method also is an option, but I'm less confident in its success when compared to PSH. I can only hope that my fireplace becomes faulty and I go by an oopsie. Can a man dream?
