This story is so heartbreaking. How many people on here have sought out help innocently only to be injured in this way? The worst part is that she won't be understood by many for what she had to go through and ironically be seen as someone who didn't get help. I am glad her loved ones are brave enough to tell her story, though they never should have had to in the first place.
It sure is tragic but I understand and respect her decision as I am in a similar predicament.

This is absolutely insane. Whoever prescribed her the benzos should burn in hell. She went through years of hell as a result of this medical negligence. I admire her bravery for holding out for so long and I admire her even more for having the guts to take control to stop the suffering. RIP Christine. you must be exhausted, rest easy now.
I can't understand why psychiatrists won't do genetic testing before they go giving such dangerous powerful drugs like this.

I would like to feed the psychiatrist these poisons and let them know what it is like and how many people they have damaged. Psychiatry is pseudo-science at best where they use your brain as a science experiment by poly-drugging you through trial and error.
I hear they receive kickbacks and perks from drug companies, which creates an obvious conflict of interest with their clients' well being. Pseudo science is right.

They do. For example, in any paper they publish, they are required to disclose the conflict but people pay little attention to it as most of them are partaking in the same scam at the expense of the health and safety of their patients.
Sadly I think the standards of safety will get worse, at least here in the US... especially now that regulatory bodies like the FDA are being taken apart. It's sick but true.

I was a surgeon practicing in Cambodia and we follow pretty much what the FDA advises. Unfortunately, the US FDA are corrupt as hell and have been in bed in the big pharmas for as long as I can remember.

Thank you for posting this. It was a tragic read but well-written and really gets across some of the horrors of this issue. I couldn't get over how they took out her thyroid - even though gaslighting and ignoring of patients experiencing things like this is common enough. Which is good, because doctors certainly won't tell you while they're writing the prescription - and it's not like the information given in the packaging is really helpful, it's just ominous.
The effects of benzodiazepines are well known to many doctors by now (and easily available if they were required to look into the medications they prescribed - my pharmacists have done far more for me in this regard to help ensure I do not take contraindicated drugs, don't withdraw too fast, etc. so of course they have zero real power to modify my prescriptions), yet they continue to prescribe them indiscriminately, with little warning, indefinitely, and with no plan to assist in withdrawal. When a person wishes to discontinue benzodiazepines, doctors often provide no real assistance or suggest potentially lethal things like cold turkey withdrawal, which increases the risk of withdrawal syndrome. If you prescribe a medication so frequently you ought to have to know what it does. They are all guilty of looking the other way, especially the regulatory bodies.
For Christine and many others benzos become a choice between a life sentence and a death sentence. She did the 'right thing' both by her values and the pro-life paradigm and was punished with this. So awful.
Rest in peace Christine, if the coroner is right you found peace and I'm glad for that.

This is very sad. I have experienced mild akasthesia as a medication side effect and it cannot be described what a horrible feeling it is.
Benzos, like most drugs, need to be prescribed appropriately to be safe and part of assessing this safety is individual differences of patients. What is lifesaving for one, could become life ending for another. So sad

Shame, all that claptrap about god, so sad when a person has been 'got at' early in life and their brain poisoned with lies. Far more dangerous than any benzo addiction. And where was the imaginary skyfiairy when needed? Nowhere as usual.
