how does the chat function work?

just a quick question about the chat function in this forum
as i understand it you have to post a secret amount of posts here to unlock it but i have got only about 9 messages and i am able to start a chat
but following to that i'd like to know if i will be able to see the response to said chat i started or if i won't be able to see anything before hitting that amount of posts?

I have over that amount and have access to neither. I see that you've published quite a bit since you left this message. Were you able to figure out how much you need? I would like to know if I'm close at least..

If I remember correctly I think they deliberately keep the specific amount secret so that people don't spam posts so they can have access to the chat function.

Yeah, they definitely keep it secret on purpose, but I could still spam posts anyway even without knowing the specific requirements. I just want to have some idea of how long it's going to take. If it takes 6 months, for example, I won't even bother. I don't think I have that much time to begin with
