Hi, my psychotherapist adviced me to try and become a YouTuber to vent my frustrations in English.

That's as response to me telling her that for a long time my dream was to be a let's play YouTuber similar to PewDiePie, Markiplier etc...

I told her that it's not profitable as the YouTubers economy is too oversaturated. and that I'm afraid of becoming a lolcow.

I told her that I'm really envious of YouTubers such as jett franzen also known as a 'larptuber' who talk freely to the camera about whatever bothers them and uploads it to YouTube.

She told me to try that as well. Even if it's not profitable in my eyes. Because in her view it might be something I would enjoy doing.

My problem is that I think it's a bad idea. One time on Facebook when I posted a post in which I asked people to adopt my cat, people we're relentless in their criticism of me.

People's criticism was that I'm 'abandoning' him. And all kinds of nasty comments. The dogpilling and the fact that alot of people were criticizing me made me feel really sad.

I think as a result I'm not fit for venting my frustrations on YouTube like jett franzen does.

(I know jett franzen is considered a larptuber but he is the only example I have off my head of a YouTuber that vents about his life in front of a camera.)

I just feel really lonely and I thought maybe just venting to the camera just like I already talk out loud to myself will make my life abit easier. I don't care about becoming a viral sensation.

I don't care about the number of views. However I'm afraid that I will be an easy prey to bullies and trolls from 'kiwi farms'. Due to my one time of not taking criticism well on a Facebook cat adoption post I made;

I lashed out at people online which In Hindsight I thought would have made me a lolcow but I was smart enough to delete my Facebook cat adoption post so nobody online would have the time to make me a lolcow.

What are your opinions? Do you think that venting your thoughts on YouTube is more trouble than it's worth?

That's completely subjective. It will surely be worth it for some.

With sufficient viewers there will be bad actors, and just plain strange people. If you're unlucky that could even be your very first viewer.
It's something you'll just have to accept.

If I were to do something similar I'd stay anonymous. It's pretty common with virtual avatars nowadays, or some completely unrelated footage. It's a cheap insurance, at least while testing the waters.
You can just shut the channel down and fade into obscurity, if you draw the wrong crowd.

These kinds of responses are typical of "pet nutters".

They think that pet owners should make the ultimate sacrifices for animals even at the expense of the animal itself.

There are a lot of smaller YT channels where people are just sitting and sharing their candid thoughts/feelings.

Suzanne Chang is one such channel I like - she talks about nonduality and awakening, but also shares commentary on her own past/trauma, and often rests in long pauses and taking her time. She comes off as very self-possessed in her approach without being a try-hard because she had a kind of ego death and doesn't care about judgment.

I think what works best is maintaining composure and not allowing oneself to become unhinged or anything on screen.

Also, just saying, the people on Kiwi Farms are like the scum of the fucking earth. Their opinions or criticisms hold zero value.

youtube is a difficult and cruel market, and i think people generally like to look for any reason to be entertained. unfortunately, people tend to get entertained by other people seemingly making fools out of themselves, regardless of they actually are in reality or not. the kiwi farm trolls are absolutely evil and represent the worst of that behavior, but i've seen it in places like the comment sections of instagram reels. it's why i never post anything, let alone anything genuine or thoughtful online publicly

my advice? write all of your vents down. create short stories, or (if you know one) get with a writer who you think can. narrate them. they don't have to be pulitzer prize worthy or have a high production value. it can be radio style if you want it to be. turn your general feelings into entertainment that will make people subconsciously disassociate your vents with you if that's the fear. you may even get a bit of an audience that finds your work compelling, which would let you monetize it

i mean all things considered, you deserve a place to vent and i totally understand the need to. people here (myself included) are always willing to and i hope you are able to find a good place to do so

i think it is more trouble than it is worth. for example; DBDR got doxxed, and his family found out about his channel (which led to him being homeless). an alternative would be to create your own website and type or upload videos to that. its less findable, you can toggle how easy things are to access if you learn enough about css/html/javascript. you can make it as esoteric or as boring as you'd like and you'd have full control unlike on youtube where you can be moderated against. i'd write privately first and let it sit for a few days before posting if you intend on garnering an audience.

you could always post the videos and unlist them. the thing about lolcows is that they are regularly baited into being more and more inflammatory for gain. They tend to impulsively respond to criticism. I think as long as you dont do that, youll be fine.

I also think popular youtubers get away with talking about their feelings because theyve built trust with their fanbase. they have a relationship where theres trust and understanding. lolcows often dont have that trust and understanding
