The 1st edition of this poll was posted a little over half a year ago. Given that the site is currently getting a lot of attention due to the recent BBC article, it was thought that a new poll would be more representative of recent and current members.

tantacruls video led me here! Ive actually, beforehand, already been on sites such as lostallhope. not someone who goes on online forums much so its no wonder i didnt find this place myself, and not a ton of media coverage for it here (SEA) either. or so ive seen. hard to find something when you dont know what you're looking for. in the video, tantacrul used a different name but kept the initials SS. it only took searching it up, the first link was already a post from a user here! i stopped watching the video after like 3 mins or so. maybe the database or whatever saw that i frequent the "suicide" topic and suggested that video in my youtube LOL.

I googled "pro-suicide forum" and came across an article about a site not mentioned in the article by name, but which I assume was this one. So then, I searched Duckduckgo with the same term, since the results there are less filtered, and came across this site.

I think it's a shame the first poll closed- I would have thought a running pole would be more useful- people may not vote twice and Tantacrul's efforts were resulting in nearly up to 1000 new members according to that. I'm glad your poll doesn't have an expiration.

For me though- I was searching for methods and came across The New York Times article. I'm too old to be recommended Tantacrul in my feed I suspect. I wonder what the age range is of the majority of the Tantacrul referals are. My guess would be mainly under 24. Although, the amount of 18 year olds that suddenly appeared after that was staggering. Ironic- I suspect at least half of us found the site via media condemning it.

Explaining my vote for 'other': I had a friend jump from Beachy Head, and was googling stuff about Beachy Head and suicide when this site came up. I got accepted on my third application because the first two times I didn't explain in enough detail about my own suicidal ideation.

I've had some friends talk about this site. We sort of have an understanding that if any of us suddenly disappear we'll know why. We all have one form or another of severe enduring illness, we'd rather have options to opt out at some point. That being said, I'm sure I had heard of this forum a few times before as well.

I heard about it on Reddit when the original subreddit was banned. I do not remember what it was called, though.

I've heard about this site from Tantacrul's video. At first I was outraged by the things I heard, because I hate the idea of someone taking sexual pleasure in another person't suicide. At the same time though, as a suicidal person myself, the idea of a site which offers actual answers to so many questions I wanted to ask was intriguing and I ended up browsing the forum a couple of times when I felt really hopeless. Now it's my go-to place to lurk whenever I have thoughts I can't talk to anyone about without upsetting them.
If Tantacrul truly thinks this site is as bad as he says, he definitely should have at the very least actually hidden the name, which he did not do. He literally said the acronym of the actual name of this forum. It was ridiculously easy to find my way here just by watching that video and typing details he shared there in Google.
I don't know if this site's existence is moral. I don't care at this point. Sure, I still don't want anyone taking sick pleasure in my death, but in the end, that possibility is far outweighed by the idea of eternal non-feeling.
I'm probably rambling, so I'll end this post here. But I'm happy I've found this place. It brings me peace of mind to know that there are safe ways to end this life. That I don't have to take a shot in the dark and risk surviving with permanent brain damage, which is my biggest fear and the biggest thing that is still keeping me from ending it in the worst times.

i can't say im surprised by the amount of people who came here from tantacruls video. the effect he wanted that video to have is (clearly) not paying off. it is not as bad here as he made it out to be.

I used to search for methods on duckduckgo, and during one of these searches I came across a hit piece on SS— I can't remember which news site it was from, possibly NYT. But the piece obviously left SS unnamed, so I just searched "suicide forum" and the first result was the wikipedia page for this site.

I opened it and something finally clicked. I've been looking for a place like this for a long time - a place where I belong. And that's how I got here.
