How long will you be at the physicatric hospital for sucidal ideatation ?

I been sent to forced hospitalization for 3 days after cutting myself (very shallow). If you act well (including to them that you no longer want to suicide), then they would let you go home. They have the choice to keep you for 1 week or longer as well.

I had a friend who cut her wrists very badly for the 50th time and was sent a day and a half into mental ward. I only had ideations and I was there for a whole week. And we were at the same center, so still don't know what happened there xd I also believe she was in a worse mental shape than me at the time, so probably it only depends on the psychyatrist they assign you to watch your progress.

All depends on what country you are in, here in the UK they don't have enough beds to even lock people up for thinking about it, hell they don't even lock you up anymore even if you have tried & failed.

Years ago though things were different and i spent 2 bloody years sectioned, that was crazy...

In Australia I was in for 4 days over the Easter public holiday, no access to psychiatrist to even discuss discharge.
As long as you behave you'll get out quick I reckon, bed space is expensive for the government to subsidise

Just say "I am happy to be alive, I would never hurt myself, I just said it for attention."
That's what they all think anyway, because they're dolts and they don't actually give a shit whether you die or not, they're just assholes looking for a paycheck like everybody else. Just repeat that statement when asked, you'll be out in a couple days.

Unless your insurance is good. They will keep you for however long it takes to milk every penny they can get from your insurance. If it's good, they'll keep you 30 days no matter what you say.

Oh man I WISH i was committed for suicidal ideation. I went to emerg twice because I was so suicidal. They sent me away because I didn't have a plan and didn't try

Yeah I didn't plan. I didn't want to hurt my gf at the time. I was trying to prevent it from getting to that stage

Was admitted once I had a plan tho

You and your friend have different insurance plans.

All depends on what country you are in, here in the UK they don't have enough beds to even lock people up for thinking about it, hell they don't even lock you up anymore even if you have tried & failed.

It's crazy in the UK... I attempted to hang myself and was found and taken to a&e, I had a 5 minute chat with the mental health team then got discharged with a bit of card with the crisis team and Samaritans number on it SMH.

I staggered into the ward at around 6:00 am one morning after drinking all night. Asked to be committed. In the six or seven hours between when I arrived and when I was evaluated by a doc, I sobered up enough to BS them into letting me go. (It dawned on me that it was essentially jail, and that they wouldn't be able to do anything for me that hadn't already been tried on an outpatient basis.)

I've been hospitalized many times for suicidal ideation. It's normally 1-3days maximum. Unless you actually have attempted to harm yourself, depending on the severity it could be longer. The longest I've been in the hospital was just over a month, but that was at the beginning of my mental health journey when I thought I could actually be helped.

This is just the standard in Canada, could be different elsewhere.

My hospitalizations for that are between 1 -2 weeks. It depends on the severity. Also how long they want to monitor you.

Never been in because my attempt failed miserably. A friend of mine who tried to OD with paracetamol and morphine wasn't even considered for the phys ward though..

That's bullshit that you would essential get your liberty and freedom of movement taken away from you just because you thought about suicide, nevermind even having a plan or means to carry it out! Fuck that hospital, and they were just trying to milk as much money as they can from you (and your insurance).

If somebody tattles on you by calling police to claim that you dared to talk about suicide the cops will be at your door. Yeah, so much for the idea that your home is your castle. The cops will break down the door of your castle if you don't open up. Then a fucking social working will show up and invade your home as well and she will ask you asinine questions that you must answer to her satisfaction if you want to avoid the police dragging you away to the loony bin. She will ask you stuff like "do you have thoughts of suicide?" and "do you feel that your life has meaning?" Assuming your IQ is higher than single digit, you will know how to answer this if you want to avoid being locked up.
