I have had a few failed attempts at partial hanging. In two of these specifically I woke up after a very short period of unconsciousness. Something that has always stayed with me is that panic-like feeling that I would describe as the combination of disorientation and a very extreme sensation of fear. The first time I experienced it was quite horrible because I felt like the world was coming down on me.

One of the most horrible things I've experienced to be honest, but the more I become familiar with the method, the more I feel that I am able to observe all of this as a simple sensation. I have to admit that meditation has also helped me a bit to detach from sensations.

Probably the reason you woke up, your body shift position when you pass out.
Yeah, and the bad thing is that now I have a very noticeable mark on the left side of my neck.

This method is not as simple as it seems, but if well done it is truly peaceful since there is no awareness of the moment when consciousness is lost.

Never fully committed to this method because of exactly this reason, waking up. I always pull back before passing out. This is why I am opting for full suspension so i can be 100% sure this wont happen.

Yeah unconscious body convulsions. I can't pass out at all :(

what kind of ligature were you using, i don't seem to pass out
Slip-knot. I have read some threads here and they mostly talk about two positions to place the knot: below the jaw and just above the clavicles.

I placed it just below my jaw and leaned forward. The problem with using this position, is that sometimes you can end up feeling like you are compressing your throat which is a very uncomfortable sensation. I think the only way to avoid this is that once you are in position, you lean forward a little bit and let yourself go. If you feel uncomfortable it means you are not doing it right.

Where are you placing the knot? Below the jaw or just above the clavicles?

Rope under the jaw
You could try placing it just above the clavicles. I hope to do it soon again just like that and try a different position. If you want, I could DM in case I achieve something.

This is why I'll go for full suspension, and not f#ck around with partial. 10 seconds of discomfort for eternal peace is quite a good trade-off for me, lol. I plan to attempt once, and make sure to be successful at that.

As for your experience, when I was practicing, to the point of blackout, and I came back, it wasn't extreme fear, but a very strong appreciation of life and feelings of happiness. Like a very strong, uplifting drug or something. It is still a form of SI, I think. I totally felt like I didn't want to do it anymore for a while after that.

Use something soft to cover the rope. Don't place it on your skin as it is since it is likely you will end up with ligature marks on your neck.

I used a long belt. Made a loop with the buckle. Threw it over an anchor point, but didn't fix it, just held the other end in my hand. So, as my arm goes limp, I automatically release the belt. Works quite well, but make sure there are no sharp objects around, because you can fall. You can test both partial and full this way, I guess. Note that the trick is to fully commit with your full bodyweight. Unless you're mentally prepared to do that, it won't work, and you'll draw the wrong conclusion, that it doesn't work. A mistake I made.
