Hi all. Talking full suspension here for a 200lb or less person.

Have a specific question but am open to hearing a discussion.

I am looking at the "attic" in a garage that many garages have. Thick piece of drywall cutout that you can push up (in the ceiling) where people might store extra things. Made for getting into the top part of a garage in case bats or bees get in. The unfinished part. You know what I'm talking about?

Up here is the exposed A-frames structure that create the roof of the garage. Long 2x4 or 2x6 boards creating the a frame (not sure of the exact size).

If you were to attach a rope to one of the a frames and let it hang down through the garage "attic-hole", is it strong enough to support a 200lb or 150lb person?

NOT talking drop hanging, but definitely full suspension regular strangulation hanging.

Will it rip the house down (the garage roof) if you have a noose around you and you step off a chair?

Hope this made sense. Maybe someone here is well versed on how strong these structures are when a home is built.

If it makes a difference, I'm talking a condo with a garage, a little more cheaply built than a home. But likely still up to standard?

It seems damn sturdy, but I haven't put my whole weight on it.

I'm thinking this part of the garage roof frame is weaker because of the square hole in the ceiling, but maybe it's actually stronger because there is a square frame built up around the hole?

Just don't want to rip the garage down and fail. Thanks.

There is a lot of different terminology in construction which depends very much on the country you live in.

The roof trusses [you call them A frames] are stress tested to meet certain regulations, that again, differ by country. They should be able to withstand the weights you mention. The access hole you mention will only weaken the ceiling joists, not the truss itself.

A slightly different method. Using a door and frame. Hook the rope around a door handle on the inside of a door. Loop the rope over the door and close it with you on the outside so your weight will pull the door into its opening,, not away from it. Its very strong and will take the weights you mention.

Either way, the construction should be perfectly feasible for your purposes.
