"Also, what's the margin of error on a revolver vs shotgun?"

Shotgun is BY FAR the best, and usually much easier to obtain than a handgun, but for a handgun your .357 revolver is among the very best. It is what the politician Budd Dwyer used to publically shoot himself. Longer barrels make the bullet travel somewhat faster, but for our purpose i don't think it makes any difference. Someone here just posted a video showing a small 20 gauge shotgun using mere birdshot and the devestating damage it did to a model of a human head at point blank range.

I read the article on positioning that was posted here. But does anybody happen to have images of someone correctly positioning a shotgun in their mouth to hit the medulla? Just wanna be really certain about how to aim it.

Hey guys, I finally have enough money for the gun!! So is any 9mm handgun a good bet? Would I be allowed to post the website of the place I'm going to buy it from and ask your guys advice or would that be against the rules?

Thank you for this information you put a lot of work into this. If I may add as well if I remember correctly: it is VERY hard to purchase one if you have been sent to a psych ward that was not voluntarily. But If you have sent yourself to the psych ward voluntarily you can't bare arms for about 5 years and it's kinda hard to purchase a gun after that but you can still get it, do you know anything if this? I hope I am correct.

Thankfully I was smart enough to be sent to one voluntarily or I would be screwed!!!

Ok… Thursday or Friday I will this time ACTUALLY go to a range and learn how to use a 12 gauge shotgun and some handgun (unsure to go with semi or revolver, they told me semis are best for beginners but I want to eventually use a revolver if I do CBT with it). Feeling oddly excited? Get to finally feel the power of a gun
If you're planning on sticking a 12 gauge in your mouth, is training really needed? I assumed your brains would be blown out too soon to have to worry about flinching or any other such recoil/reflex screwing things up.

Hi,
I have the Lancaster 12 gauge antique shotgun at home. Can I load it with black powder shotgun shell filled with BB (#1 shot, 4mm) birdshot? Although I know that birdshot isn't quite sufficient for this purpose, at this time I can't obtain buckshot nor slug.
Thank you for your comment.

Shells can be emptied out and their contents replaced with different projectiles. Cut the shell open, dump the shot out and replace it with something larger.

But wouldn't it be quite dangerous to modify the cartridge? I am not an expert when it comes to guns. I am just asking if the birdshot is lethal enough for this purpose.

I would say that it isn't enough, birdshot on its own is weak enough but combined with black powder I wouldn't even think about it. Modern cartridges typically use smokeless powder, which is a different, more effective powder.
Also no, modifying the cartridge is not as dangerous as you'd think. The only real dangerous part of the shell is the primer, which you will have to intentionally strike very hard in order to set off, you could do whatever you want with the shot or even the gunpowder (which in a shotgun shell, the two would be seperated, usually by a piece of plastic, so you do not have to worry about dumping out the gunpowder when messing with the shot) with no problem.
Personally if it were me I would replace the shot with something larger, or perhaps make wax slugs.
(I provide this information assuming that the person I am replying to is a firearms enthusiast and despite the forum it is posted on I do not assume those I speak to are suicidal and intend to use firearms to commit suicide)

So can I convert the birdshot load to 00 buckshot and then just cover it in glue from a glue gun?

Would a 38 special defense round be almost as good as a .357 bullet? Or more than sufficient? I'm concerned about the recoil and kick from the .357. I understand the concept that recoil won't matter but I am still concerned. I'm not a big person and I have never shot any gun, nor revolver before. They scare me but it's my "best" option.

At point blank range I don't think it makes any difference if you use birdshot or buckshot or a slug. The birdshot won't have time or space to expand and will just be one devestating cohesive mass. Look for youtube videos on the subject or just practice on a watermelon and see for yourself. One poster just posted this video showing a SMALL (20 guage) shotgun shooting birdshot:

Honestly, I have been thinking about it too. Before you replied I saw this video: (skip to 4:08) which pretty well explains it. And if I may ask, do you have some real life experience with firearms and ammunition or did you just watched some youtube videos about it?

Imo the best ammo for 12 gauge shotgun are

A 385 Grain slug traveling 1900 feet per second imo no one is living after deep in the mouth

12 Gauge 2 3/4" Shotgun Slug Ammo 300 Grain SST Bullet 2000 FPS

1600 fps 00 buck shot

2000 fps sst slug From 10 meters away blows up 3 water jugs in a row . Contact point blank would be even worse

That's shotguns.

Its the velocity . As the velocity increases The power of the bullet increases squared . The mass linearly the velocity squared

Good video. The part relevant to what i said above is at 4:00. Yes, real life.

Does anyone know where to start to get a handgun in NC? I've honestly never touched a gun, and I feel like a shotgun is just going to be too much for me to handle to really out to my head. I was thinking about getting a Glock but I really don't know shit about guns whatsoever. I just want a quick, high success rate option. Can anyone please help? I don't even know where to start. Some places say I need a permit, some places say I need other random things.

I am not American so take what I say with a grain of salt but I looked into it, apparently you previously needed a permit to buy a gun but that was repealed last year, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the stuff you looked at was out of date due to that. That being said, literally just go to the gun store and talk to the salespeople there about buying a handgun if you're unsure.

I just wanted to give an PSA and update on this megathread.

Most of the information is more/less still relevant, however, it is possible that since the writing of this megathread from late 2018 (originally by another user, but he gave me persmission to repost it under my name, TAW122), certain states' laws have changed. The federal law is more/less the same as usual and such. Additionally, the cost of certain firearms may vary due to inflation and just supply and demand as well as events around the world, nation. With that said, I would still suggest that if anyone wishes to pursue this method to be cognizant of their local and state laws for the state that one resides in.

So far not many discussions on aim. Interesting to ponder. Can anyone link to another thread?

I had a family member that killed his entire family and them himself with a shotgun, so I'd say those work. I support his right to ctb himself, although we still don't know why he did that, but harming his family was horrendous and inexcusable. Regardless, it is likely the method I will choose. All this talk about N and SN and being so hard to get ahold of makes me want to go for something that stands an almost certain method of working the first time. I appreciate the post.

Re: UK black powder licenses - the article mentions that police need to visit your storage arrangement for an 'acquire and keep' certificate. Only issue is, I live with my parents and they'd absolutely be suspicious. Even just a letter from the police would likely raise alarms. Has anyone managed to acquire one in similar circumstances, and how did they go about that?

Shotgun is my last resort method. The only way I'd be able to use a gun on myself is if I am at a point in my life where it is absolutely necessary.

Even after reading this mega thread, I still am unsure how to aim once the barrel is in my mouth. There has to be some markers in the mouth that we can aim toward correct? Aim above, toward or below the uvula?

It's over 1300 fps (feet per second) and should be more than enough. I think shot placement is still the most important aspect, bad placement could result in serious injuries and likely permanent severe debility.

How much facial damage would there be with a .45 ACP handgun in the mouth through the back of my head? I dont want to be too disfigured for my parents to see

There are too many variables, including random chance, for there to be a simple answer. If that is important to you don't use a gun of any kind.

Makes sense. Unfortunately, I think considering success rate, amount of suffering, and ease of access (Red state baby woo!) gun is by far the best choice for me
