Discussion For those not planning to CTB soon, why still browse the forums?

Three main reasons. (1) Browsing the site can be entertaining. (2) Circumstances can change rapidly, so it is good to be (somewhat) up-to-date on method advice. (3) Being here helps to make me feel more comfortable with suicide (in the sense of overcoming SI). Joiner, for example, thinks that fearlessness is learned, and that exposure to suicide and other self-harming behavior makes one more likely to eventually carry out suicide.

Still hanging around for one last fall, and browsing here I can't believe how many times I nod in agreement with many things. People here seem nice. Most people are not.

I'm new here, but I joined because this place actually makes me feel better. I came here to learn about methods, sure, but I stayed because this is the only place I can go when I'm low that doesn't just make me feel worse. When I'm here I don't feel quite as broken. I finally feel understood.

I can come here when I'm in a spiral, when I'm at the bottom of an emotional pit and I don't know how to get out, and I can work my way back up. It's almost like this is the only forum with a rescue ladder whose rungs go low enough for me to grab on and start climbing. This forum meets me where I'm at.
