Centrists are more progressive than conservatives, so showing that Biden is more progressive than China doesn't really disprove anything I said. Ideologies existing that are more conservative than American Democrats doesn't mean there aren't places that are also more progressive. How progressive or centrist the Democratic party is can come down to semantics & not something I'm particularly interested in debating bc it doesn't address my original claim at all. Again, my point was that Biden is more conservative than the Democratic party, not that he's a conservative. There's a difference 🤷‍♀️
The most left-wing and progressive faction in the Democratic Party is obviously the Squad, but Biden is still socially liberal. He's not "right-wing" like some hardliners like to claim.

Would you prefer to live in an authoritarian one-party communist state?
No, but I don't see a duopoly as any better than a monopoly. It gives the illusion of choice. Besides, when an electoral college exists, popular votes are meaningless. It gives people false hope as if they're engaging in democracy.

I never said he was. He literally describes himself as center-left 👍

The debate was, uh, concerning... but people keep acting like it was just the debate. Some us have been raising the alarm about Biden for a long time. Is not as if the debate was the first sign up trouble.

He should have stuck to what he said about making his term as president a "transitional" one. As a California resident, the electoral college ensures my vote has no impact on the outcome. I only vote for 3rd parties even though I know it's pointless. Nothing else we can do.

Even though I think Biden sucks, and the Democratic party doesnt represent my views, I simply find Trump/Republicans to be a lot more threatening. As a non-Christian, chronically unemployed drug-user, anti-natalist, degenerate artist with a criminal record and a deep suspicion of so-called "family values," I could very well end up in a government-run forced-labor camp under the kind of system that Trump and his adherents hope to achieve.

After watching the debate, I have a renewed sense of urgency to get all my CTB supplies gathered and prepared... hell no am I digging ditches for Donald Trump.

Edit: actually I didn't even watch it. I saw about 5 minutes and left the room. Painful to see.

The far-left can't "improve things a little" if they can't even acknowledge the genocides, massacres and man-made famines under communist regimes. Communism has directly killed more people than Nazism. Nobody wants another Holodomor, Great Purge, Cultural Revolution or a Cambodian genocide in the name of achieving socialism.

Yeah because the only alternative to 'Reaganism On Steroids' is 'Pol Pot But Transgender'

Kind of weird to have the far left reduced to the excesses of authoritarian communism of the past. I also don't see any point in discussing what the far-left can or can't do in a thread that's discussing American electoral politics.

Got it.

Thanks for trying to engage. I'm done discussing politics with you. No offense.

Okay, so when we are talking about modern autocratic regimes, I think these are best understood as "Communism in Name Only." The official party ideology may include rhetorical allusions to Marxism, but in practice, the way they operate has very little in common with the philosophy of Karl Marx.

You mentioned North Korea, who do not self-identify as communists. Their full title is actually Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Official government propaganda is heavy on the socialistic language and rhetoric, but it simply an awkward and altogether unconvincing fig leaf which serves as a cover for the absolute rule of the Kim dynasty.

Forget the language. It's just window dressing. Look at how the work of governing is actually administered. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is hardly any more communist than it is democratic. The culture is extremely conservative and loyalty to the Kim dynasty is the central organizing principle. In fact, it bears more than a passing resemblance to what America might look like if it were made great again:

1. The people are devoutly patriotic and loyal to their country. Any criticism of the country is punished as treason.
2. National defense is of central importance. (30% of the population of the entire country is enlisted. 2nd largest military organization in the world.)
3. The executive has absolute authority
4. There is no movement for transgender rights.
5. There is no movement for gay rights.
6. The government has never even acknowledged the existence of such people within their country.
7. Traditional gender roles are enforced and women are expected to remain at home (with the exception of military service)
8. Compared to inner city areas of the US, there is almost no crime
9. Casual sex is forbidden, marriages are arranged via community matchmakers or families
10. Racist attitudes against non-Koreans are the norm (did I mention they are ultra nationalistic.)

I had to look a couple of these claims up to be sure. They are all easily verifiable with a search engine.

We might just have to agree to disagree, because you and I have completely different definitions of the word "communism." I think the words "totalitarianism" or "autocracy" would be far more accurate. Edit: to acknowledge you also described them as totalitarian.

If we can't agree on what the terms mean, then we will just be talking past each other, with no actual communication.

Just for a little context on my perspective, I am critical of many aspects of capitalism, I am critical of many aspects of Marxism. I think they both also have partial value. I have no political affiliation, never have never will.

Noted.

But honestly... I was hoping for more of a reply . Sometimes I fail to notice when others are losing interest in a topic, so probably my bad though. Maybe we can revisit the conversation another time, or a different subject. I don't have anything against you and totally not trying to start a fight. A lot can be lost in text-only communication, so just want to make sure I'm not coming across as being hostile or something. Just trying to better understand the inner thoughts of another human.

Trump shitting himself on stage during the second debate might be the only thing that could save America from fascism at this point. What a crazy timeline we're in.
