Faking Tinnitus

I just had this idea. So i live in the Netherlands where euthanasia is legally under some circumstances. The law says that under unbearable circumstamces euthanasia is legal. Isnt it possible for me to fake having Tinnitus and apply for euthanasia. Had someone already tried it. Wouldnt it also be accepted as a legitimate reason at the clinic in zwitserland?

I have tinnitus. I can imagine in your case it will be hard to proof so.

You will need to have tests (even then might be hard for you to prove and "fail" the test). After that, probs go through all sorts of "recovery" and management techniques.

You're also going to need to have to act extremely well. Eg, how does this person manage to sleep so well and get on with the day with this.

It won't be something you will immediately be euthanised for….if you do it all well I think I will be a good few several years.

Tinnitus can be objectively demostrated via fMRI by observing the auditory cortex (and other parts of the brain) in silence, so if the doctor is smart enough he could catch you there. The tinnitus signal permeates a bunch of parts of the brain and that can be seen in the fMRI.



The auditory cortex of people with Tinnitus is always activated (since they are always hearing a lot of stuff even in total silence), but in people with no tinnitus the auditory cortex is off/non-stimulated in silence.

I have T too (I was on TinnitusTalk back in the day). Took me around 2 years to fully habituate, nowadays I don't care about it at all (6 years in). Induced by the classical loud noise exposure (at work) while being stressed at the same time (overtrainning + hypogonadism), (and yes it's loud and a bazillion different sounds).

I have several family/friends with T and they have never cared about it at all (most of them didn't even know that that sound has a medical name ).

I think they could design tests and ask- can you hear this or this this or this and they'll giv eyou varying levels to see what you coudl hear, and you would have to be consistnet with the cutoff- that you can't hear anything below 80 or 90 decibels or something- I just don't think you could be consistent with this, knhowinig where the line is- I do think a simple heari98ng test like this would expose that you are lying, honestly.

My uncle has tinnitus. With the cochlear tests they have these days, its impossible to fake tinnitus. You can always fake backpain though

Eevn that they would thoroughly test before donig something so extreme as killing someone- I personally don't think that faking any medical condition would work, they woudl test very thoroughly first.

It´s also an acctepable reason to apply for VAD in Switzerland. But that the application is accepted does not mean you will be accepted for VAD.
You can´t fake Tinnitus.

This answer was not for you but for the OP. By the way, I know of one case that was accepted for VAD for tinnitus.

I see a post like this, and it angers me to no end to live in the third-world country that is the United States. Our 'healthcare' system is so irrevocably broken that the best I could get for my severe tinnitus (after months of getting approvals) was, "I dunno. Take some Lipo Flavonoid and stop whining?".

Hell...I had an Orthopedic Doctor prescribe an anti-inflammatory that lists 'mood changes' as a rare side effect. When I called his office in crisis with intrisive thoughts (more than usual), he was like, "I'm not a 'Mood Guy'. Go to the ER".

The ENT medical textbook must be really simple with just one chapter titled, "Little flashlight pointed inside ear". It took 20 ENTs to cure a fucking ear infection. I might not have tinnitus if I had received quality care.

That doctor you saw deserves to be review bombed so people know not to see him. I have a good grasp of tinnitus treatments. Feel free to message me. You absolutely can do something about it. You can do a lot of things. You can get hearing aid sound generators or use Bluetooth headphones for sound therapy. Seriously, there's stuff you can do.

Me too, i had an ear infection a few months ago in my right ear and since then, i couldn't hear as well from that ear but i don't have tinnitus. Theres just an extremely loud ringing sound in my ear when im lying down on my right side. The doctor seemed to not care, gave me a few medications and the infection became worse and worse, luckily i don't have any serious damage but i agree with you that ENTs are some of the worst doctors.
