i guess it depends. for some, it could get pretty out of hand and it will be hard to stop. my experience with sh was that i did it for few months and when i realised that it didnt do anything major for me i stopped and havent cut since.

It's not uncommon for it to escalate, which is why SHers typically recommend against ever engaging in it in the first place.

SH is different for everyone; it's by no means a healthy way but if it helps; it helps.
Some people get into loops of self harm regret which begets more SH and so on and by extension more serious ways of dealing with it.Similar threads
