Does N (sodium pento) used in most VAD clinics, burn the veins or the tissue surrounding it upon infusion ?

What if the N leaks into the surrounding tissue and doesnt flow into the vein ( if one has very thin and weak veins) ?

Also, does anyone have an idea on what speed they administer that IV ? for example does the whole lethal dose take a minute of infusion or is it a prolonged 15-30 min slow infusion ?

Apparently this is no problem, because in the literature it is described that this absolutely should be avoided with Thiopental and no reference is made to other substances.

Do you know why they even use sodium pento and not propfol ?

propfol is the most common general anesthesia method, it doesnt hurt because ive been under it before

while N or sodium pento is used only on animals and is used for insomnia

so why not kill using propfol ?

The first was invented much earlier, therefore used earlier, therefore much more data collected and as it is a sensitive topic much data is important and only very few consider to switch and collect data on the alternatives.

Propofol is very effective at reducing consciousness and maintaining anesthesia; however, its lethal effect is not guaranteed.
