Are there any people on here who are reluctant to commit suicide because they believe in God and are afraid of reincarnation or where they might go in some kind of afterlife? Like, the feeling that if you do it, it might not work?

I don't believe nor I disbelieve in god, being an agnostic, and I try to not make assumptions about the existence of souls as well, since there's no proof that they exist and no proof that they don't exist but yes, it can be scary for me to think about the possibility of going to hell or reincarnating. That's not going to stop me from killing myself, though, as I made the conclusion that, just like you can't cheat death, you can't escape from what comes next, be it the oblivion I seek or some sort of afterlife. It's inevitable, and it's uncertain, so why overthink it in this lifetime? If there's a chance that I will get what I seek (eternal oblivion), I'm going to take it. It's better than living in this world, and I'm confident about my chances as I'm leaning towards atheism most of the time.

Nope fuck God. That's a mental construct to explain away a bunch of chit one doesnt understand, and cant change; also to alleviate personal choice.

There are many studies that say God only exists in the brain. Most societies wont explore that path because if something becomes exposed then they cant use religion as a means of control.

I believe in God, not in the traditional religion sense, but spiritually yes. I do give pause time to time but that's moreso fear of the unknown. Not because I feel or believe that I will be punished for choosing to exit in that way. Spiritually, I believe we all have certain exit points already planned out in our lives, and for some of us that includes suicide.

The existence of a suicide forum is a pretty compelling argument for atheism, isn't it? If we're the result of intelligent design, that doesn't reflect well upon the designer. What drug was he on when he thought I was a good idea?

What is the point of God? The physical universe operates according to causal laws. God was invented to explain phenomena and to justify the authority of those with power over us.

Belief in God never did our species any good. It just held back science and social progress.

We don't live in 800 B.C. any longer, just give it up already.

Other than a vague worry that the cruel cosmic joke may somehow continue, no. Screw God.
Sometimes I do sorta hope Satan is a suave, seductive Tim Curry in a Krampus costume though.

I don't believe in a god as such. But I do believe that there's an ebb and flow of life, and that when you die, all the atoms that made you return to the rest of the universe and become other things. I think the nature of the universe is spiritual in a way - we're all connected and everything - every little atom - that makes us 'us' is shared and will continue to compose more things. It's comforting to think that there's something bigger out there, even if it's science...

By the way, I'm high. I hope that all made sense ha

i believe in God. but i'm still going ahead to CTB. i believe He is merciful and he knows our pain. and because jesus died to redeem us from all sins. there are different school of thoughts so i might be wrong. but this is what i subscribe to. do some research and see what resonates with you.

I do believe in God. I used to consider myself a Christian before the world and life beat me down. Now, I have my doubts and I don't really know what to believe. I know there is a God, but I don't think the rules of the afterlife are as black and white as the Bible and Christian make it out to be.

I don't consider myself religious anymore. I'm just a suicidal lesbian, who's probably going to "hell" by Christian standards. :/

I find your comment to be the most sensible here. How we chew onto other life to sustain ours, and constantly dropping out building blocks. And will be deconstructed to a greater extent to incorporate other living forms after we die. That's the view on reincarnation I can dig into.

Oh no, there is no God in any shape or for me in my mind.
And if I am mistaken and I will stand in front of Him one day, He will not like what I have to say to him. On my behalf as well as others, forgotten by The God.
After which, I will send Him on Earth, to taste His own medicine....
Wouldn't that be a sight. Lol!

Exactly. Being an adolescent, I was sometimes crying at nights because I thought I would go to Hell for things I have done. Except I'm not wondering. I was compromising my mental autonomy for the absolute trust in the judgement of authority figures (family, sect).

It's just so hard and complex. I have felt love and I do see the good through all the cruelty and suffering. But so much of the suffering is unjust.

And then I think about all the other living things like insects and animals. This is where reincarnation seems to make more sense and that's terrifying.

I just hope if there is a higher being, that they're much more compassionate than what this physical world looks like. Maybe they can't control what happens here, but only after we die?

Some of the punishments in some religions are just so cruel. Like in the Buddhist teachings if someone commits suicide even if they're suffering, they could have like 100 lives in a row of suicide or become insects or animals a bunch of times. But you don't even remember that from your last life so you're almost suffering because if someone else.

And obviously eternal hellfire and all that stuff. It just seems so mean and cruel.

For my own sanity, and not just for myself, I have to believe if there is something more compassionate out there. I may be very unpleasantly surprised, but I have to believe that to keep making it another day.

Reluctant to commit suicide because of God? No.

I am rather averse to the thought of being reincarnated into a new life with a disability or disfigurement as punishment.

I can't help but think of our reality as a kind of conspiracy. This implies something like a "god", but it only becomes one when you think about it that way. It follows that it, whatever it is, would do whatever it can to make you. I know that this is probably a result of my own defunct way of thinking. Can't believe in the idea that the evil in the world is random, senseless, and normal. Although random evil can easily become patterned and vice-versa.

I wish I had never lived because I think if I hadn't, but somehow still existed without the life experiences I've had, the idea of a god would be ridiculous.. I cling to that even when my heart leads me down a different path and leaves me feeling overwhelmed.

I'm a big proponent of the unintelligent design theory. Here's a great explanation:

Define "God". Peoples conception of what God means or what God might be tend to differ greatly. If you mean some old man sitting on a cloud with basically a humans' mind just "greater" (including our limited believes, values and motivations), nah i don't believe into that. But if you mean by God some form of abstract entity or system that might exist sure, i think this might be the case. The universe is pretty huge and fascinating, who knows its true boundaries. But i also believe that anything that would truly deserve the name "God" must be so utterly alien and incomprehensible from our own narrow point of view that we wouldn't even recognize it. It's sentience, if it would have any, would probably differ so much from our own that it would remain a mystery to us, even if we could proof its existence. No point in worshipping something like that...

i'm 99.9% sure that god exists. I pray every night and I am afraid of going to hell if I ctb without it being necessary. like now i'm reaching the end of coping skills due to pain, illness, and depression. but I will wait until I can't anymore then I believe I will be forgiven. there are many reasons that I believe in god but I no longer believe in religion. religion is mans law not gods law and I think religion is/was used to control us

Sometimes it is a comfort that we are so delightfully insignificant in the scheme of things. Other times it is more fuel to CTB because ultimately we are meaningless. Life is a terminal disease regardless of what you do while you're alive. No one has survived life.

I believe in God, afterlife, reincarnation, spirits, etc but I have little fear of the afterlife because I know the truth and the truth has set me free. Truth really does set you free, you just have to believe it. There are lies and deception in the world then there are personal truths, then there is the truth. Distinguishing these is tricky but can be done.
