On average I am quite convinced German politicians are less corrupt than in many other countries.

The Christian conservative party is not as populist as some leftwingers pretend. They become more populist. But thus far nor as populist as many other European conservative parties. There is still the firewall to the AfD.

Despite saying this. Germany is pretty good in producing nazis and right-wing extremists. The politicians in general might be on average more centrist but the AfD is among the most extreme right-wing parties in Europe.

Has someboy of you heard of Maximilian Krah? He from time to time has staff members who turn out to be Chinese spies. He was the leading candidate in the latest election from the European parliament. In an interview during his campaign he emphasized not all members of the SS (Nazi Schutzstaffel/ nazi elite troop) were criminals.

Even the far-right in many Eurpean countries were shocked after this statement.

Die AfD sind Vaterlandsverräter anyway. (The AfD consists mostly of traitors of their own home country, anyway.

No more or less than in other Western European countries, perhaps just better at pretending. Here, they screw you over with a big smile on their faces. 🤡

A few days ago, we had another election, and the small majority fell for it again. In four years, we'll be on our knees.

Nope, human nature is human nature.

I live in the land of the orange face here in the U.S. and all of his B.S.

NO, I did NOT vote for him and those that did are getting burned

Not really, while politicians in my country are definitely rotten to their core, I don't think there's any difference between them and those from other countries. That profession attracts power hungry people so I think that even the seemingly nice ones are awful. They are just better at hiding it. I guess one shouldn't generalize an entire profession but let's be real, there are very few good ones, and the most successful ones got there by backstabbing and climbing over figurative corpses.

No, all politicians are corrupt in some form. Money, power, control, etc. Some mask it better than others and some have a sweeter siren song and people who want to believe their lies.

I think South African leaders are maybe just more transparent about their corruption. More straightforward, you could say.

Corruption in a 3rd world country is definitely evil. The Philippines is controlled by around 250 political families. Dynasties, is what they are. Rampant corruption but we barely see politicians in jail. We even elect convicted corrupt/criminal politicians like other countries, tho we also love incompetent celebrities running offices. We worship them here as much as we worship dictators. We complain so much about how hard life is, but yeah at the end of the day, we love corrupt politicians!

We perpetuate extended political families. We are aware that they are corrupt, we are aware of the injustice. It's not just the politicians that are rotten; the people are too.

The countries that seem most squeaky clean and least corrupt are always as bad or worse than the obviously corrupt ones. Never forget that. I don't want to dox myself but I know most people would be very surprised to find out some of the goings on in the place I am currently living in.

Bad people are pretty much universally bad... and the way the world works does not at all encourage good leaders. In dictatorships, obviously bad people tend to rise to power or at least be corrupted by it. In countries that have elections, assuming those elections are "fair", there really is nothing to encourage good people to run for office and EVERYTHING to encourage bad people to run for office.

I want to believe there are more good people than bad people in the world... but that is tough sometimes when you see how many people rally to defend their bad guy vs the other side's bad guy... but even IF there are more good people in the world than bad, clearly the bad rise to the top of the power structure way more often and tend to make the long-term policies.
