I got a feeling it might be tonight for me, definitely sometime before my 20th birthday.

I like to set dates to look forward to stuff. A movie will be coming out, I will want to watch it before I go or finish a tv show, game, do stuff with my friends. So it delays my decision.
If I don't have much planned in terms of things going on in my life. I start to feel the want to CTB.

I had a date set because I was going with SN, so I had to be on an anti-emetic regimen for at least 2 days and then take the SN. I took the antiemetics but I freaked out and couldn't drink the sn. I think setting a date is pretty stressful. I had a lot of bad anxiety the days before because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Yeah, I did set a date way back when. Turned out pretty well, apart from every single aspect.

I think it depends on the person. Some people are goal-oriented and work best under a deadline. The rest of us are more spur of the moment and buckle under the pressure of a deadline. Unfortunately, the more peaceful the method, the more preparation is required. Of course, the preparation time allows fear, doubt, and SI to seep in. I have N; the two day prep is excruciating. That is the conundrum I am dealing with.

My friend, on the other hand, set a deadline, made a to-do list, and methodically checked off everything before taking her life a few years ago. Wish I had her discipline and organizational skills.

Whenever I set a date it's always the day after a concert I'm going to, or some party a friend's hosting, or some life event that's coming up. I never do anything when the time actually comes though.

I think the best way to ctb is to plan it that morning and execute it that night. Spending too much time thinking about it makes it harder to follow through.

I agree. I started the two day prep, but it is too difficult emotionally. I was so anxious and miserable and also it gave me a feeling of it not being my choice any more, because the date/time was now set in stone. So I'm just going to do the stat dose instead, whenever I can work up the nerve.

I agree. When I first visited the site, the prevailing advice was to follow the 48-hour regimen. Recently, I found that Dignitas and other euthanasia facility patients are prescribed the eight-hour regimen. I think I'm going to adhere to the eight-hour as well. If I keep following the 48 hour and continue "chickening out" (for lack of a better term), I am going to run out of Meto!

Edit - the information that was struck-through is incorrect. See @lululoo post below for correction.

Yeah I was all about the 48 hr because it seemed safer not to take a heavy dose, and just made sense to have a build up in your system. But then when I tried it saw the problem with it!

I'm not sure what 8 hour regimen you're referring to.. Dignitas and the Canadian assisted suicide guidance suggest the 1 hour prior stat dose. Peaceful pill handbook mentions the 48 hr or a 1 hour stat dose. The Dutch "Guide to a Humane Self-chosen death" suggests a 36-48 hr regimen. I'm sure there are other sources I'm not aware of. Where did you see 8 hours?

I apologize. I am incorrect. The eight-hour regimen was advised by A, not Dignitas. In his email, he recommended taking the meto eight hours and another dose 45 minutes prior to taking the N. I will edit my response to prevent the spread of misinformation. Mea culpa all.

I have a list but no deadline. When the list is completed, I'm free to go at any time as my method has been waiting for me for a while now.

June 2011 and every single day since basically, lol. Clearly, it didn't work, nor did letters, planning, having the method in hand etc. Still here, more miserable than ever.

I've never had a particular date before. And like pretty much all things in life, I've put it on hold over and over again. But there is no alternative for me and so I just booked my hotel. Even though the date is a little over two weeks away, I am now reassured because an end is in sight.

@lululoo Almost all the sources I've read now agree that either a stat dose or the 36/48 hour regimen is best. I was also surprised that A recommends this '8 hours regimen'. But I found an excerpt in Five Last Acts that recommends the same.

The exact choice and number of anti-nausea drugs is far less crucial than using common sense. Ideally you would take an initial dose a couple of hours before the self-deliverance drugs and a further dose about twenty minutes before taking lethal drugs. You would increase the normal dose slightly, but not excessively. Some people will start the anti-nausea tablets a couple of days beforehand, at the normal dosage (Usually two every eight hours) to be on the safe side. This gets them into the system well ahead of the self-deliverance.

But this says a couple days or a couple hours. Not 8 hours. And it's an older source that no other source agrees with (as far as the couple hours plus 20 min before), so I think I'll ignore it. Thanks for sharing that.

I was just thinking about this today. I'm considering my birthday, if I can hang on that long or something pretty amazing changes my life for the better. The only thing is they are throwing a birthday party for my great niece and her sister because we all have a birthday in this month.

No dates for me. It will happen when I'm well and truly had enough and there is no help or hope for me.

Then don't as they will associate that with their birthdays.

I know this is terrible and probably will get a lot of blow back but I'm so tired of putting everyone's feelings ahead of my own especially my family. I guess I've reached my breaking point or just being selfish now at the worst time. How do you care about a family that doesn't care about you?

Not a hard date set, no. I have the SN method ready to go, in case I feel a need to take off early. But the method I prefer is CO, and to use that I need to solve a few issues first.

I don't like to set a date because that feels like a lot of pressure (in my own head) and once I settle all the details, this isn't supposed to be extra stressful. When I was younger, I'd set a date and end up so worried about making sure I did it that day that it didn't work. I have a general time frame which I might narrow down to a particular week when it comes closer, but that's about as far as I'll go.
