Help Do you have a way of praying? Does it work

I know many people are very skeptic of religion but this is of course directed to the ones that aren't.
I used to pray by the book but lately I find that simply speaking with my mind as if with God makes more sense to me, of course it doesn't do much except making me feel like I vented to a friend, it's useful to put your life in the hands of the unkown, it helps in hoping for a fitting fate, but I wish I could get a response now and then.

I pray sometimes and I find that it actually does work. I like praying for small things, God usually provides them

I pray the Rosary sometimes. It's a bit of work but is soothing, and challenging. I meditate on the sufferings of Christ. The last words of the Rosary often grab me... "... now, and at the hour of our death", which is where my mind often is.

I rarely pray, but when I do, it's more or less like this: "OH GOD, PLEASE, MAKE IT STOP, I'M SORRY, PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU, MAKE THE PAIN STOP" All while crying and hugging my plushie, tensing all my muscles until i feel tired and numb.

I think the gods listen, cause the pain stops...for a while...

Until about 4 years ago, I didn't pray very often due to thinking it was selfish~ When I learned that God told us to pray, I did freestyle prayers (just requesting for whatever's on my mind as you did; altho, I'm glad yours is able to calm you down! :D) and prayed "Luther's Evening Prayer" and the "Our Father"~ I tired of thanking God for sustaining me, so I just do freestyle prayers now~ Altho, even these basically follow a pattern now, since I'm frequently just requesting the same or similar things each time~ xD "Please help us go to Heaven if it be Your will and help their family and friends to mourn their loss."

I think the best kind of prayer is the one that makes you feel closer to God. I believe God hears all prayers, no matter how they are said. Formal, ritualistic prayer can be very powerful (one reason why I go to church), but in my experience, informal prayers where I say whatever is on my mind are the best when I'm not feeling great. Honestly, my most powerful prayers are mostly said in bed while hugging a pillow lol.

Im an orthodox christian so I pray. My gf's dad is an archdeacon and he told me that you should pray how you feel right. There are still rules though, like doing it silently, being brief and maybe saying the "our father" prayer in the end. Im still very new to the religion and come from a fully atheist background so take my advice with a grain of salt.
